I've been doing a lot of work for my classes lately, and just today I had a final critique for a project I had a lot of fun with, so I thought I'd share it with you. Here are the images:

one
two
three

The three pictures are based on the common theme of being visual interpretations of a song. I chose one of my own tracked songs to work off of. Each picture is supposed to represent the action and feelings that I associate with a particular part of the song. Since I'm not too big on concept art though, I mostly just used this imagery as a starting point and went on to develop the pictures according to where I wanted to see them go.

You can download the song here. Remember it's an unfinished song though.

These are actually copies that I shrunk down to 33% so most people won't have trouble viewing them. I worked on this project with the intention of it being printed out at a decent resolution, so the original photoshop files are 1600x2560 pixels. I might go back in and clean up the second two pictures if I get enough drive to do so.

Whattaya think?

I think you're one hell of an artist, and I'd like to hear the songs that inspired these, if it's ever possible.

Thanks! The song actually isn't finished at the moment; I had originally planned to finish it over last weekend but hit a big slump and couldn't manage anything. I'll muddle through my university account tomorrow and see if I can free up some space for it.

I'm liking the second one best of all three. I would like to hear the music, also.

Is the song one of those that you gave to me at Christmas?

I dunno, I really don't like the overuse of that one photoshop brush, so the first one is problematic. The second one looks good, and I love the composition, but it still feels unfinished. I want to see more clarity in the mechanics. You're giving them too much of an organic styling, which is fine, but I think it would do well with some clever selective clarity. I'm not sure on the third one, I have no critique for it.

Personally, I like all 3, and they are all different but to give you an honest opinion I would like to hear the music as this played a part in the creation of each piece. My fav' tho is the first..lol give me the feeling of bright summer warmth, nature with constrictions tho.. :S ok enough..post the song if you can when its done :D

Thanks everyone! Walter, you do have an old version of the song I think; it's the one with the big orchestral part with timpanis and then the bass and drums. I've completely redone the song from scratch though, with new instrument samples and melodies, and the new one is a lot different.

Marcello: Hmm... do you mean one of the brushes I used for the explosion things or for the vine things on the first one? And yeah, I pretty much just ran out of time on the second one. Since the picture is one of the best compositions I think I've come up with I think I'll go back in finish the thing off when I can make time for it.

I love the 2nd one too! Definetly has a Zack style when comparing it to your other works. But they're all so great! Very nice!

are we picking our favorites? i like three the most. why..hm..the smoggy atmosphere..the position of the gold lights. that mysterious red one. i kinda agree with marcello about 'two'. the tree seems more in focus than the mechanics, but once again its amazingly lit. the colors in 'one' are alive and thriving..we dont see that much in your work. i too would like to hear the song that inspired that image.

I can't decide which i like better out of the second and third piece. I'm a sucker for industrial/machinary art.

Not to say that these are the three best works of art I have ever seen you do (but you already know that).... there is something intriguing about them, and I would still like to hear the music that they stemmed from. I think the whole concept of putting music into images is fascinating. I might try that myself sometime.

Thanks again everyone! For those that are interested, I finally got around to uploading an mp3 of the song in its current state and put the link in the post here.
