I was told to sketch this yesterday on binder paper in class. I felt it deserved a more finite interperative piece;

If you don't understand, read the parable again :) if you do, here's a question; If someone forces you to turn around and face reality, what will it look like to you? Will it be that feild of ever changing freedom and beauty?... Or will it be just another cave wall?

The fact that it was written between 427 BC and 347 BC still surprises me, I feel like we only evolved significantly in technology and not in content.
[Very interpretative piece, indeed].

You'd think the cave would be darker/more contrasty... and where are the flames from the torches?! I demand torches! Heh, I don't think you really wanted an answer, the questions sounded rhetorical to me. Actually those chains look awesome, very bling bling. Did you use pastels?

that's Open Canvas 3.03+ and Photoshop CS :) if you analyze the real image of the cave (and the version that has a puppet show) the fire is located on a high ledge over the exit so the shadows cast appropriatley. and yeah the Q's were just there to think about :P

Hehe, I guess the version I read didn't have a puppet show. Maybe it was abridged or something, but all I remember is that people were looking at shadows being casted from torches behind them. Well in any case, I thought it looked a bit digital and stuff but you did say sketch at first so I thought maybe it was pastels or something.

Now that I look at it again the shadows look kinda like your icon... is that you? Going crazy and sticking your tongue out?

If I turn around and see reality, it turns it's back on me. So I don't bother to turn around.

Cool pic!!!
I really like those chains.

Are you self taught???
And what are your influences???

I like to 'steal' certain style traits from influences, if you will, so I dont have anything real definate. I like the comic line art of Travis Charest and the randomness of Jhonen Vasquez, Lane Smith, Dave McKean, friends, etc. But most of it is self taught :) I try and teach myself to illustrate what my mind portrays, because I feel that's where the core and meaning of the 'art' exists.

I'm kind of stubborn when it comes to someone teaching me things. I like to learn it myself on my own time and if probable, from my own mind. I like to think that the refining skill is already there, I just have to find the right way to let it out effectivley

"Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one."

So yeah, that would say that reality is an illusion. So without reality we would have a perfect harmony..
I like the picture btw:)

Belief creates reality.
