I think it's cool that you're trying that. Outlines aren't necessarily bad, but it's good to be able to not need to use them if you don't want to.

It looks pretty good. The edges are a bit blurry, though. You might try blocking out solid colors with a completely opaque brush first, and then shading it, for your next attempt; it might make things a little easier than trying to sharpen it up afterwards.
