I work in the news... this drawing I did as a scathing self indictment of my work. I love my job in the news... but sometimes we forget about the "ghosts behind the headlines." When I first started drawing this picture I wanted to have a lightbulb on the page instead of the ghost face. But after a few tough days at the office... the subject turned darker. When I was writing the headlines for the picture I tried not to think about specific stories that I have seen. A lot of the terrorist stuff could be in any news paper in the county at any time. I made sure to type an entertainment headline in there,"Pop Stars to Marry." I hate entertainment stories because they place importance on shallow pretense. One headline I did write from a specific incedent... it was a story that affected my soul. "Father kills family and then turns gun on himself." It's a true story that happened in my State a few months ago... and I guess that's one of the ghosts I address. The jaded view of a battered journalist. Hiding emotion through the help of journalese.
