I think we're all too critical of ourselves so I am hereby declaring this "advanced" art week...(like anybody ever listens to me, and understand you probably shouldn't because I have no authority to declare anything around here) Everybody draw the most childish picture you can get out of your "inner child" and post it on the beginner's board.

EDIT: THIS SEEMS TO BE CAUSING A PROBLEM AND THE MODS WILL HAVE TO DELETE TOO MANY PICTURES, SO PLEASE, NEVER MIND... DON'T DO IT.

StrawberryYamichan (Jan 14, 2005)
Lol, people seem to like doing it. I was wondering why there was all those childish pictures there!

davincipoppalag (Jan 15, 2005)

  icon
TaCO (Jan 15, 2005)

inatyrb (Jan 15, 2005)
Yup. I added my pciture. I didn't put any thought in to it. I wish I could have came up with a better picture. Oh well. Nice idea BTW!!!

Keep in mind that the standards of the beginner's board are not being temporarily relaxed. You put me in a difficult situation, because many of the pictures being posted are ones that would normally be deleted. I'm not saying they won't be, but it's giving me a headache thinking about dealing with all the consequential complaints. I hope this novelty wears off very quickly.

StrawberryYamichan (Jan 15, 2005)
I always wondered what a mod would think about this. And now I know.
  icon
Zack (Jan 15, 2005)
Don't get me wrong, a few of the pictures are quite clever and amusing. But many are just garbage.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jan 15, 2005)
I did think about that possibility after the pictures started being posted... sorry if I caused a problem.
  icon
Anna (Jan 15, 2005)
It's just a 'theme'. They don't last long.
  icon
sincity (Jan 15, 2005)
Zack, it's a fun thing, let us have the fun, maybe you should join in also, then after a few days delete them. It's all in the name of having a good time. I'm sure all of us here are adult enough to understand if you start deleting. I DID have fun doing and viewing these pics.
No disrespects to you, I hope you know that. Just making my opinion heard is all. :}
  icon
StrawberryYamichan (Jan 15, 2005)
One of my pics got deleted that was from this theme cause it was only 5 min :( I thought that was my best one too. It was of my mommy. But I understand what you're saying Zack. Some should be deleted.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jan 15, 2005)
I was just now going through the pictures and I think alot of them are more creative and interesting than what's usually on the beginner's board. It'll probably die down really soon, anyway.

Anna (Jan 15, 2005)
I think alot of them are more creative and interesting than what's usually on the beginner's board

Amen to that.
  icon
StrawberryYamichan (Jan 15, 2005)
I agree with you too.
  icon
Zack (Jan 15, 2005)
Some are, yes. But where should I draw the line? Deciding whether or not to delete a picture is a difficult thing in the first place.

Suppose I let every picture stay, regardless of quality. How would that make someone who had a picture deleted a day before this trend started feel? Like they'd been had, and rightly so. Fair is fair, folks. Don't act like you're above the law.
  icon
StrawberryYamichan (Jan 15, 2005)
Yea, I can understand what you mean Zack. I'd feel so mad if I had a picture deleted that I thought was good but then all these childish drawings got to stay.
  icon
Anna (edited Jan 15, 2005)
I don't think that anyone here is acting like they're 'above the law'. That's not a very nice thing to say. I don't think any of us are arrogant like that, Zack. The majority of us are all pretty decent folks. We follow the rules here. This was just a little theme. The reason for it being.. some of us DO take our art VERY seriously and are very critical. This was a nice way to just chill and not think twice. Relax... themes don't last forever, y'know.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jan 15, 2005)
I'm not above the law... I'm just an outlaw.
  icon
Anna (Jan 15, 2005)
Yeehaw!
  icon
StrawberryYamichan (Jan 15, 2005)
Being an outlaw is fun!
  icon
Zack (Jan 15, 2005)
Don't put words in my mouth, Anna. I wasn't insinuating that you guys don't try to follow the rules or that you are arrogant. The reason I said that was because it would be inconsistent moderating to let a picture remain that would normally be deleted. The rules for deletion apply to everyone equally.

I'm just saying you need to be fair to the other people who have their pictures deleted in the past, and those who will in the future. People want consistency in their moderating. If I let everything stay and someone later says "why did you delete my picture but not this one," what should I say? I'm sorry, but I like those people more? Or, tough luck, you missed on the week where nothing got deleted? I can't do that. Sorry.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jan 15, 2005)
Whoops, the law is back in town.. I'm ridin' out. :)
  icon
marcello (Jan 15, 2005)
It'd be more amusing if we weren't in the middle of a bandwidth crisis. -__-
  icon
Anna (Jan 15, 2005)
The difference is that it was a theme.

And I'm not putting words in your mouth. That's what I read and how I interpreted it. Keep in mind that being on the internet... this leaves lots of room for different interpretations. Sorry that the sentence was left just like that for me to interpret however. But now that you have explained it.. I see.

You are the moderator, and you are free to do as you choose. So if you want to delete.. then of course, that's fine. I just wanted to make it clear WHY the pictures were being drawn. We're not trying to be assholes.. it's just a little temporary (ie. a couple days NOT forever) stress relief.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jan 15, 2005)
I had no idea we had a crisis.
  icon
marcello (Jan 15, 2005)
Yea. december kinda went a bit over our bandwidth limit. we might have to look to getting a new server, but that's definitely not something I can afford at the moment.
  icon
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jan 15, 2005)
I'll be happy to go back and delete mine if that'll help it, and I'm sure everyone else that did one probably would too, if we asked.
  icon
Zack (Jan 15, 2005)
Okay, I guess I am taking this too seriously. I don't mean to stomp on your fun, guys, but I try to be fair to everyone on this site, and thought there was going to be a conflict of interest here. Don't worry, I don't think you're assholes. I think I was arguing because I wanted to show you that I'm not trying to be an asshole either. So anyway. Allrighty.
  icon
Anna (Jan 15, 2005)
*hug Zack* You're still one of my favorite people here. :-D Arguing or not.
  icon
spiritdweller (Jan 15, 2005)
Sometimes I get to thinkin, ok, yeah, I can draw ok sometimes... but I don't wanna all the time... I wanna just screw off and not work at it... then I get this feeling like it sucks... 'cause it doesn't live up to some of my others.... and many many others on the boards here....but then I tell myself... Dave likes me... that's all that matters
  icon
emmamommalag (Jan 15, 2005)
I think it's safe to say we ALL like you, Lorikins. And you don't have to draw masterpieces all the time... or even ever. lol
  icon
marcello (Jan 15, 2005)
except me, of course.
  icon
davincipoppalag (edited Jan 15, 2005)
Marcello,..just know there are some of us here who would help with a new server if that's what is needed. I have no idea of the cost involved..but I would be interested in knowing. I would really hate to see this place shut because of a problem with space. (and Lori I love you. and momma. and several others..so none of you can do anything wrong in my book)
  icon
dixielandcutie (Jan 15, 2005)
also marcello, in the mean time, are there ways we can not use so much space? i dont know much about how bandwidth is used, but im sure if there were 'space-saving techniques, a lot of us here would do that
  icon
marcello (Jan 15, 2005)
bandwidth is related to people browsing the site, not by drawing or submitting pictures so much. the only way to 'save' bandwidth is to not visit the site, but that defeats the purpose. It's inevitable for a site to use more bandwidth as becomes more popular, so it's not as if it is a bad thing. We'll just have to figure something out to allow 2draw to expand more gracefully.
  icon
davincipoppalag (Jan 15, 2005)
well again..I wold be willing to help with a new server
and several others would , as well..
  icon
dixielandcutie (Jan 15, 2005)
hmmm akay!
  icon
emmamommalag (Jan 15, 2005)
Okay.. I will try to limit my browsing to once or twice a day.
  icon
StrawberryYamichan (Jan 16, 2005)
Okay I won't visit here once I sign on and then leave it up if I'm not doing anything on it.
