I have an unfortunate habit of drawing the forrground BEFORE drawing the background so my backgrounds tend to look more like accents around the front figure, rather than a scene.
ah well.

to Shiek-
AS far as i can figure it, i still have to START with a back ground layer first, right?
i mean, even if i just used a blank one and came back to it after I finished the foreground.
It sounds simple, but I ALWAYS FORGET!
I know, i know, take some ginco and lay off the bud.

well, what I do, is I start with the figure in the picture, and if i'm doing a "just-color" background, i draw it on a different layer, and then erase inside the lines of the figure. That way, i can draw the background without really affecting the figure! I know, its kinda obvious...nobel prize goes to....SOMEONE ELSE! waaaaaaa...

If you forget to make the background layer before you start, you can always just copy the foreground, make the top layer invisible, erase the bottom layer, and then make the top visible again. That way you can use the bottom layer for the background. I also use that layer to put color on... much, much easier and cleaner than masking.
Would that I had discovered all this earlier. :p
