Spotted hyenas... my favourite animals! The females of this species are very dominating. And it is very hard to discern the females from the males due to a unique anatomical feature of the females. >;)

Kind of like you would really "see it in the dark"... I love that documentary about the lions and the hyenas - fascinating.

I vaguely recall hearing that female hyenas have the highest childbirth mortality rate of any mammal. I never stopped to think why. Ick. *shivers*

I once saw a hyena licking the hand of a man. That sounds cute rather than terrifying. But I have also seen how another man's face was mutilated after a hyena attack. A hyena can crush bones in its jaws, it can crash them like biscuits. <:)
