P.S. Ty,damnskip, let's duke this out in the forums shall we...
Jesus was a great man (and not only a man, I believe, but God and man at the same time) and led an amazing 'life' on Earth. But "The Passion" is not about Jesus' life. It is about his death. A death that he not only knew was going to happen, but how it would happen. He suffered this death out of love, so that those who love him would not be eternally punished for their wrongdoing. Thus, the movie is about Jesus' unfaltering passion for his faithful, even though it meant he would die a horrible death.
If Jesus did not die on the cross, all of his teachings and miracles would have been for naught. His death on the cross was why he became a human being in the first place. Jesus' life was not taken from him. It was, and is, a gift he gave of his own accord. Thus, the Jesus' death is, ironically, the most important event of his life.
The movie is not supposed to be good in the usual sense of a good movie. It is primarily about converying how much love Jesus had for his faithful -- namely, that he would willingly go through all the horrible suffering that the movie depicts. Consider the idea that someone would go through all that torture out of love for you. You, individually, as a person. That's the point. That's why it's dramatic.
And no, I'm not trying to foist any religion on you. I'm just attempting to explain the purpose of the movie. For what it's worth, I apologize for the insensitive comments you have recieved. I don't think a lack of faith is something to be mocked or insulted.
Derrick: Yes, many churchpeople behave mindlessly and just use Christianity as an excuse. But not all of them. I would appreciate it if you would not stereotype us. Do you like being stereotyped? No? Hold yourself to the same standard to which you hold others.
