Asshole
Axil62 (Jun 18, 2004)
The day started out good. My friend came home from Iraq. We drank champagne and smoked cigars. Not much was said about Iraq but we spoke of other things and laughed and enjoyed the morning. The day grew long for him as his internal clock was still set to Iraq time and the mood slowly changed to one of somber thoughts. I took him home and we shook hands and did that half shoulder guy type hug. I came home and felt melancholy and a little sad. I fell asleep and had dreams I can't remember now. So here I am again describing some meaningless image I've wasted more time doing. I don't know if it was a fair description or not and at this point I don't really care. Matt made it home.

I clicked on this picture because it's such a lovely, lonely silhouette with an intriguing title. But, after reading your description, I don't know what to say. I'm glad Matt made it back too.

phew thanks i was going through symbolism withdrawl. well i would name them all but... there are just so many. so i'll do 3
1) B&W is always a symbol of melancholy, and or depression
2)land with no sun, also pointing toward depression
3) no trees and a bare horizon usually symbol an emptiness or something similar...
well i think i got those right....

I think so too. The figure is also almost over the hill and is facing what looks like a marker of some sort. Beyond that the image becomes hazy and uncertain.

This is very evocative. It conveys the lonely helplessness of having someone we care about in an uncertain situation we can do nothing to change. This one is very good.
