The more you consider the individual muscle groups and their functions, the better your studies will come out. For more tips you didn't ask for call: 1-800-fuck-off hehehehe
Just trying to help, really.
OH yeah, and consider drawing the skeleton first than adding muscle. It sounds tedious but if this is a real study as you call it, that's the best way to got about it.
I know, studying anatomy is BORING aNd STOOOOOPID! I'm gonna have to study lots in order to be the greatest POKEMON MASTER!!!!! thankgoditssummersoicansitonmyfatlazyassanddrawalldamndaylearninganatomy.
*calls 1-800-fuck-off* HEY ASSWIPE!!! OMG!!1 YOU SUCK! GIVE ME UR SKILLS! KTHXBYE.
edit: DRAW THE SKELETON?! ARE YOU NUTS? do you realize you are speaking to the most lazy 18 year old in the world? I ask my lil brother to squeeze my stomach so my shit can come out and afterwards I make my mom wipe my ass!!
NO, no, no, Clox. Liss up Kash, Lemmie tell ya how to study the male physique... Find two of the hottest guys you know and ask them to pose for you. Everybody gets naked, you stare them down over your sketch pad, and then, well, you can take it from there. Then you do the drawings later from the Polaroids you took. LOL!!!!! (Oh, seriously... Michelangelo's anatomy studies are wonderful. I don't know where you can look at them on the net, I went to Ft Worth to see the actual sketches when they were on display... amazing)
Many people make the mistake of not drawing the skeleton, they think a body is just a muscle-filled skin sack, but it's not. The skeleton is key to drawing anatomy correctly, any fine art professor will tell you this, an anatomist would tell you this, I'm telling you this hehehehe (don't let that diminish my point). Without a proper structure, be it an actual detailed skeleton or a nicely drawn gesture of a skeleton, you need that structure to pile on the muscle, it's PART OF THE BODY!!
BTW, you should do a lot of gesture drawings of life. Anyone, people walking down the street, someone picking their nose, whatever. Do as many as can in a day. If you really want to get good at this drawing anatomy business, it's a commitment.
I can show you anatomy studies I did from high school, labeled individual parts too. My college studies are much better though. If you're interested in seeing either of them Kasha, I can send you an E-mail, or anyone else for that matter.
you studied anatomy in highschool? :( arrrgh, what the heck did I learn in highschool? CRAP! The only classes that I had that would help me out with art is the basic art class. One freaking semester of art! OMG!! I am totally art deprived. Truthfully, I never thought I wanted to be dealing with art until my freshmen year. Thankfully summer is here, now I can indulge myself with artful things. :D :D :D :D!!
The best way to learn is just to do it, anyway. Observe the best you can find, study it, and try to emulate it. An artist cannot be taught, only "awakened", anyway.
