I've seen better digital work than that and I hardly feel inadequate after looking at good digital art. The only artists that make me feel a bit inadequate are people who produce art that is as good as, if not better than digital work in traditional media (oils, acrylic, pencil). I'm not saying digital art is easy but seriously, you're able to erase mistakes with ease, have movable layers, you have an almost infinite amount of colors and many other tools that make digital art far easier. Imagine if you had to stretch a canvas, mix every color you wanted, set up your tools, prepare your painting surface each time you wanted to draw. That's just the set up, then you actually have to know how to paint too.

With practice and devotion I think most anyone could develop digital drawing skills. Painting and drawing (on real paper or canvas) takes practice and devotion too but it's also more work, more expensive and it's harder. So to all you people who feel inadequate, don't, the art you see on that site is at a level that you've not reached yet.

It's also a lot less messy! lol But yeah, some of those people have certainly mastered the digital tools... awesomely so.

Well Clox you are correct. I can't draw worth crap with traditional media. You're one of the better artists here so you may not be as awed by some of that as I am. Some of those are amazing to me. There is one in the transportation section of a P51 Mustang that positiviely looks like real metal..to me anyway..

there is a huge difference between using the applets here and using programs such as photoshop. you can get so many different effects and you have so much more control that you can't really compare the two. I'm used to photoshop, and using the applets on here takes a bit of getting used too. I find using tradtional media is easier than this site. Having said that I also find photoshop easier than tradtional media...so it is really hard to compare. also, there are some images on that site you linked that done by people using photoshops filters to adjust photos without much effort at all.

that site has some nice works.
it's funny people always like to seperate digital art from the other medium. for some people, it's easier to draw with digital tools, but for others, tradtional medium is easier. and i keep hearing ppl say that you should learn to do tradtional medium first before going digital. but i think that doesn't matter. i've been drawing digitally for two years before i tried acrylic for the first time and guess what, i can apply what i learned in digital drawing to acrylic, even the layers. and acrylic actually take me less time, and it is easier to create certain effects than digital.
everyone has their own preferrences after all.

If you have artistic talent, you should be able to both equally as well with practice, respectively. You may find one easier than the other, but some artists prefer pastels and some prefer oils, etc., so it's kind of like that. Real mediums take much longer to learn to use effectively, though... years, in fact, to perfect the skill of some mediums, such as oil painting. (Acrylics are pretty much like thick water colors, pretty simple to handle) You have to learn to mix your palettes, (which usually has to be done over and over during the course of one painting), sometimes you have to wait days just for a layer of paint to dry, so it requires alot more patience. I could name a billion other reasons why the real mediums are more difficult, (Clox covered alot of it) but I won't do it. You're welcome... I know you didn't want me to ramble on forever. :)

(I'm not even going to look at the site, because I have no problem feeling inadequate, anyway.)

Heh, I consider myself more on the lines of a digital painter. It's funny though when you go up to an Art instructor talking about digital painting and they look at you like you're speeking greek or something. In some ways I prefer the applets over photoshop, because of the challenge but if I want something immensly detailed I use photoshop. It's the personal preferance I guess.

I'm in the same boat as Icats: there aren't many things that are more gratifying than when you've just finished a piece you've spent countless hours on :) And you know, photoshop is a night and day difference from the applets on this site simply because there are more tools that are more advanced, so try not to feel inadequate. Don't misunderstand me though, I adore lascaux like I do Baskin Robin's's (sp?) mint chocolate chip ice cream cake :P It would be wonderful if I could afford a program like photoshop, but I feel completely lucky to have found such a great site like 2Draw so that I can have the chance to better my work :)

And d00d! I saw some people on that whatchamacallit site say that they spent 30+ hours on their work, so the results that they produce will most likely be spectacular (damn them and their high-class programs! bah!) The saying is extremely annoying but very true: practice does indeed make perfect ;P

Marcello said that when I first got here.. and by and large he is absolutely correct.. if you spend the time..the result is usually pretty good..
