Very appropriate, and you did a nice job on it, too. People tend to forget what it's really about and think of it as the beer and bbq holiday. :) edit: oh, as you are finishing it, If you make the man really defined with greater values of lights/darks it will bring him forward and give the picture depth.
Very appropriate. People need to be reminded of what these people gave up for us. The man does need more definition and contrast just like DBA says ..great pic so far glow
It is looking better, but I think it still needs more contrast. He needs contrast within himself, as well as to bring him out from the flag. If you add shading under his legs, where shadow would make it darker, and under his arms, maybe some darker green wrinkles in his shirt, and then add some hints of highlight and shadow around the edges of his form to bring him forward. (Don't blur anything on him) I hope that makes sense. :) Oh, btw, this picture inspired me to start one of WWII soldiers in battle from an old b&w photograph... I get so much inspiration just from browsing around here.
After 18 months of worrying and praying, my brother returned home safe (but not sound) from Viet Nam. My heart goes out to those families who are now, where my family was 35 years ago. As I watch the current news now, I remember how it was for us back then...watching the news each day..holding our breath while we watched them loading up the wounded on helicopters. I was thinking about that and thats what inspired this picture.
i honor all who have served their nation, reguardless of their personal or political belief.... i think of the sacrifice they made , and the freedom, what would we give.....and would all of us die, so that they may live....nicely done glo....
