folks, that is a goomba, not a mushroom. Remember, mario eats the musrooms to get bigger and then he jumps on the goomba's heads? remember? Maybe I am getting old...

The turtle bird things are called koopas. Koopa Troopas, sometimes. Bowser is actually a varaint of them, sometimes called King Koopa.
