very good pic overall, you have a good sense for colours, shapes and shadows...
might i suggest adding some more detail? bumps in the skin, eye, nostril, veins in the leaf?

i agree with everything rydicanubis said but you might want to round the fingers/toes. other then that kick ass colors!

Tried making some tree bark or something, but couldn't figure out how to make a nice texture.

Wow I was about to watch the animation and BOOM it was updated. This is very wicked, the texture on the skin is awesome, and I like the shine in the eye. The wood is pretty damn spiffeh too. Very nice!
