I see this as an exhibition of sorrow. she's dressed like it's a nice summer's day, but there's gloom, and it looks cold. Her posture and look are of someone who doesn't feel like they have much to be proud of.
The butterflies seems nice until you see they are bound together in this chain.

Extremely cool.. it actually made me moody for a few minutes.. it's been a while since a painting made me feel... her arm is broken by the way..

edit- it's also interesting how the thumb looks much happier..
