I change mine when it gets worn down to almost the pen tip. They can be tricky to extract. Use a fingernail clipper with gentle pressure. I guess a sign might be that pressure sensitivity isn't working as well as it used to. (because the nib is woen down too close to the pen tip and it's unable to retract intop the pen as far as isused to because it's too short now)

ok well I think I will extract it before it's at the pen tip to save myself a headache but it's not quite ready yet me thinks.

it felt more like a pencil, but by that time I had already gotten used to the slippery plastic ones so I took it out. I've also tried taping paper over the drawing surface of the pad but that really wears a nib out fast and by golly we can't have that I tell ya.

I used my teeth to ectract the nib from my tablet pen one time..just couldn't seem to remove it any other way.

Mine came with a round metal thing that's used like tweezers to takes them out.

They were hidden inside the pen stand, so I didn't know they exist for some time.
