Things are going realllly well :)
-edit- Why can't I erase the whole canvas? |
shults (edited Oct 5, 2010)
ok, so I played with it today a bit and I have some questions..
a. can someone explain better the pen functions? there were so many I was lost.. :S b. how do you manage that awful color chooser (or whatever its called)? c. How can I isolate a layer? I drew on the sketch layer and there was a black dot from a higher layer.. is there any way to see in which layer it was on, without going to every other layer and trying to erase the spot? d. do I need to save before exit? do I need to do that if there are other users online? e. If there's something really good there, is there a way to transfer it somehow to a regular board or are the painting there forever doomed? |
davincipoppalag (Oct 5, 2010)
good questions shultsy.. hope someone can explain.. I know doc told me if you hover the cursor over the functions it should say what it is..but I couldnt make it do that for some reason
marcello (Oct 5, 2010)
a. probably. if you hover over the sliders (not the icons) there are tooltips
b. you can try the HSB sliders c. you can't, unfortunately d. no, it always saves e. 2draw also saves a snapshot of the canvas every 5 minutes (if anything changed). I'll eventually add a way to browse that snapshot history. You can save a PNG or PSD (with layers) of the whole canvas to your computer from the File menu. |
Roytje (Oct 5, 2010)
What do we have to do if the canvas is full?
marcello (Oct 5, 2010)
what do you want to do?
Roytje (Oct 5, 2010)
Erase it, so we can start all over again. Like yesterday, but the images from before I erased it are back again.
tanuki (edited Oct 5, 2010)
weirdly it's reverted back to where it was sunday morning. My fire breathing duck and lightning breathing raccoon are gone, but my giraffe is back. The raccoon is named konoha, but I don't have a name for the duck or giraffe. Help me name them!
They've now combined into a giraffe/duck/raccoon that's shooting lightning out his eyes and breathing a fiery quack. |
Dr.Moony (Oct 5, 2010)
@Roy the way we did it was 100% OK....it's just that the server crashed
marcello (Oct 5, 2010)
you can always drop on top of someone else's drawing...no need to erase the whole canvas.
apparently there was a blackout with the server (hosted separately from 2draw) and it lost all the work since the last reset. |
Bobstained (Oct 5, 2010)
I've not drawn anything yet, because I cant seem to find the undo button. It's all alien to me.
shults (Oct 5, 2010)
I think there is no undo button. Jtablet didn't work for me either, even though I got the "experimental jtablet2" warning.

oneironaut (edited Oct 7, 2010)
Breaking this down to a functional FAQ for the Wiki.
tanuki (edited Oct 5, 2010)
just to add to that-
Right clicking on the canvas does act as an eyedropper for color selection (but only samples from the current layer) Each of the different menus on the right side have a pushpin on the right edge of the menu. When that is pushed in by clicking it then that menu will stay in its current state of open/closed regardless of what other menus are opened or closed. For exampled- If the pushpin is pressed in by clicking on it and the menu was open at that time, then it will stay open and opening other menus won't affect it. If the menu was closed when the pushpin was pressed in then that menu will stay closed even if you try to open it until you pull the pushpin out by clicking it again. If the pushpin is out on one menu and you try to open a different menu then the first menu might close to provide room for the newly opened menu. So basically if a menu is open and you want to close it but can't then you need to click the pushpin first. If a menu is open and you want it to stay open even if you open other menus then make sure the pushpin is pressed in. All brushes are actually the same, but have different presets. For example, the center one works like an eraser because the opacity on it is set at 0. The opacity slider seems to add color when it's on the right side of the midpoint and take away color on the left side. |

marcello (Oct 6, 2010)
oneironaut: that's a great start, want to post it on the wiki: http://2draw.net/wiki/index.php?title=Sketcher&action=edit
that way people can add to/correct it easily. for example, the third brush is the watercolor tool. it blends colors together. you can download the linux version of the jtablet2 alpha here: http://groups.google.com/group/jtablet-dev/browse_thread/thread/393986633a6650f6 (scroll down to the last message for the latest version) it's super alpha, so don't expect perfection. :-) |

davincipoppalag (Oct 6, 2010)
the mysteries are unfolding =D
shults (Oct 6, 2010)
Would like to have a major collab on one of the live-boards?
I think we could find an interesting refrence and give it two days, or something like that. |
davincipoppalag (Oct 6, 2010)
Thats really what its all about..drawing together!
oneironaut (edited Oct 6, 2010)
@shults
With any collaboration organization is key. Perhaps a post in the Community board with a sign up for commitments with a theme or idea for that day/time. Something similar to how Contests are organized. @marcello On it - Sketcher . |

tanuki (edited Oct 6, 2010)
I've tried a couple of times just now to log on and the first 2 tries it did this in the chat box-
Connecting... Success! Disconnected (Client crashed: NullPointerException) -this line repeats 24 more times Disconnected (Connection was broken: Broken pipe) on the third try I'm now connected successfully. I drew a pirate with french bread for a beard. He's Bread Beard the Pirate! |
Flubbles (edited Oct 6, 2010)
Nobody seems to be on when I go there, I think there should be specific times set so people know when there's going to be people there.
TheCrimsonKing (Oct 6, 2010)
I'm there every now and then.
davincipoppalag (Oct 7, 2010)
Or we get a dog that barks here when someone goes into that room
Axil62 (Oct 7, 2010)
Flubbles.. or an indicator on the regular 2draw page that blinks like the memo link does. then you'd know when someone was there...it could even display how many were there and even who was there if Marcello were so inclined.
Flubbles (Oct 7, 2010)
Something needs to change, I've been there three times and I was talking to myself.
marcello (Oct 7, 2010)
oneironaut: awesome, great work. :-)
I'll add something to the frontpage eventually. Meanwhile you can go to the live page to see if anyone is online without loading the whole thing up. |
Flubbles (Oct 7, 2010)
Is there only one page available to draw and talk at any one time? because some people may want to pair off and draw by themselves. It's not a very big space to draw if there's lots of people on there at once. I've got to read up on it, because I've not got much of a clue whats going on.
marcello (Oct 7, 2010)
There are two boards with huge canvases (2048x1536). I will likely be adding a 3rd advanced-level one in the next couple weeks. They're somewhat expensive to run, so you'll have to share the space. There hasn't ever been more than 4 people on at the same time thus far...
This is not intended as a replacement for the regular drawing boards, but an entirely new and different way to draw. |
tanuki (edited Oct 9, 2010)
just a thought- there should maybe be a rule or something against drawings that would normally be 18+ if they were posted on the regular boards. Just because there's no real way of censoring the live boards.
also, my fiery fox of fire is finally finished! also, maybe a regular schedule for wiping the board clean. I want to wipe things right now, but I don't want to be the one to wipe x_x |
oneironaut (Oct 10, 2010)
Connecting... Success!
That's as far as I've been all day. No layers load and no names, including my own, in the users list. |
tanuki (edited Oct 10, 2010)
that happened to me once today, but only once. One other time today I was booted off with a "broken pipeline" error but I think that was on my own end with my crummy internet connection since a few seconds later AIM had issues too.
One reason you're not seeing anyone in the users list is that hardly anyone has been online today. The board still needs wiping though. I've had to resort to drawing mustaches on everyone's faces, including my fox. I added a couple of top hats for good measure, and a goatee on crimsonking's asian chick. Hopefully he has a sense of humor. :3 |

here's a FAQ about sketcher:
http://www.artgrounds.com/sketcher.do |
davincipoppalag (Oct 12, 2010)
well I can go there.. it opens.. I can move the sliders and all that..but It wont make a mark of any kind on the drawing canvas now..
oneironaut (Oct 12, 2010)
@davinci
Thats what it was like, for me, for a whole day. I saw others logged in and using it, never more than two people. I could refresh the cached images on the launch page and watch what changes were happening. The layers and users didn't load. I tried again when there was only one other person listed as "online users" on the front page and it all loaded fine. I doodled a shroom and logged out. I am on a cable connection and can both edit intensive large files and up/download traffic simultaneously with my computer. I suspect it's server side. Perhaps that is something marcello can verify. Something like a log might show users trying to connect or partially with errors. |
davincipoppalag (Oct 12, 2010)
I think I may have been trying to draw on layers that werent on top. I dont know how you select the right ones..but I think thats what the ;problem must have been.. I tried to make a mark with nobody there and it wouldnt until it reached a point were the layer I was on must have been on top I dont know.. its all too weird for me to figure out.. theres no room to draw anything now ajyway
Suntan (Oct 12, 2010)
@Marcello: can we erase what is on the beginner board?
oneironaut (Oct 12, 2010)
I look straight in the mirror, watch it come clearer
I look like a painter, behind all the grease But paintings creating, and I'm just erasing A crystal-clear canvas is my masterpiece |
Suntan (Oct 12, 2010)
:)
davincipoppalag (Oct 16, 2010)
Hey..you got it over here on the main site! cool
oneironaut (Oct 16, 2010)
Those previews are fantastic and being able to launch from the front page should increase traffic.
