Hey Everybody,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I need help with Adobe Photoshop and Corel painter 11. Im trying to figure out how to achieve smooth painting like the shi painter application. I'm in love with the Shi Painter Watercolor tool but it seems that I can not achieve this smooth paint in photoshop. Any Suggestions? Thank you.

PS: I hope you can understand the wording of this question, I'm not so good expressing myself in words.

Photoshop doesn't have the capability to blend colors with your brush. Unless you own CS5 which introduced a lot of *realistic* brushes. Haven't tried CS5 yet though.
Corel Painter should have something very similar to the brush in Oekaki Shi but I don't know anymore which brush/setup it was exactly.

my suggestion would be to just draw on 2draw. ;-)

apart from 2draw s excellent tools... i recomend Artrage for offline paint simulation ....but my favourite is one called Mypaint , based on a powerful brush engine with a lot of presets, simple interface and completely free. i found this place by following a chibipaint link from there :D

Lol I guess the best solution is to stay at 2draw XD

I had the same problem...I ended up using the airbrush a lot on PS. >>;
I do remember using Open Canvas for a little while. But I just went back to shi-painter.

you could also try gimp with the mixbrush plugin

moony, what you mean finally, its had that plugin for years.. thought its been renamed Gimp for Painters
If somebody wants to paint with gimp, they should really get Gimp for Painters and Gimp Paint Studio

@mursku last time I checked was 2006. Nobody knew of any plug-ins or custom builds(which this is).

I'm having trouble installing Shi-Painter. I downloaded the official version at

http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA016309/spainter/index_en.html

It has a zip file with a jar file in it. Firefox says "can't find install script". If I double click the file I get a message of "invalid or corrupt jar file". The jar file, and everything else in the zip from the official website, is dated from 2006. Is there an updated version somewhere else? How did you all manage to install Shi-Painter?

"We don't have to.. we have it here ready to use"

Is Shi-Painter Java-based or javascript?

PaintTool SAI

That's the closest I've found to a program with a brush that paints like the applets here. It seems to be a popular choice on pixiv if you ever go there.

Here's an English trial version- link
