Actually all slugs do that. The ones on David Attenborough were leopard slugs. I'm keeping yellow cellar slugs. There are a lot of neat native slugs here, but they pretty much all live in the North Island and I'm in the South Island. All slugs (and snails) are hermaphrodites, and they will primarily use their male organs, but sometimes apophallation occurs (when the slugs get tangled and can't separate, so one chews off the penis of the other) and so the slug with the missing penis is forced to use it's female organs from then on...

They used to reek havoc with my brothers vegetable patch. He tried all types of things to keep them off, but the only solution is to take them off by hand one by one.
A bowl of beer works well to get rid of them..they dont really bother me though unless i accidentally step on one..then i can't get the slime off my foot...
I used to catch tadpoles when I was a kid, and I tried to keep them as pets.....but they always died. I never had any pet slugs before though. I tried to keep a praying mantis for a pet one time, and I would feed it grasshoppers.....but I ended up letting him go free....."lol"! I also tried keeping salamanders for pets too.....and one time I caught a garter snake, and put him in an aquarium, and fed him mealworms.....but he dehydrated and ended up dying. I also had pet turtles......one was a snapping turtle named Rodney. I had an ant farm at one time too....."lol"! I could go on and on....I had many strange pets.....but I never had any slugs!!!
