It's like the jocks vs. the people who like electronics in HIGH SCHOOL... or it's like the old movie "Sixteen Candles" Grow up everyone. They say on the radio, the video games are producing dopamine in the peoples' brains and that they thrive on it.... Dopamine is also created by getting off your ass and doing something... so what's the difference? You can sit and use your brain for a while resting your body... and you can use your body to do plenty also. Either way it's really all a rush 'til it's bedtime. Once you can get the hang of how to get to sleep well, you've got a real gift these days.... for me anyway.
I will always love and play my video games....there's no chance of me ever looking like this....my mental capacity has not diminished from doing it..so why would i stop..it's fun and entertaining and i like kicking peoples ass...so better to do it on screen than in real life i'd say...hmmm...
It's entertainment, it's escapeism, it's isolating, it's selfish, it's enjoyable, it's detestable, it's a waste of precious time, it's something to do when you should be doing something else, something creative, something wonderful, something compassionate, something that's worth something in the grand scheme of things. Like spending time with friends, loved ones....
In the meantime, other people are ignored, snuffed, seen as less important than the 'next level'...it's addicting, it's something some people would much rather do than actually participate in life. It's sad, it makes kids fat, unimaginative and lazy.
There, that pretty much covers it.
My kids play video games..they ar niether fat or lazy..they are very itelligent...most of the people around me aren't worth the time it takes to fart much less anything else....my friends and family get my attention when they need it...
My son is going to Australia next summer to study...and my daughter is a very accomplished dancer who didn't need classes to get that way..and they play games with me almost everyday...so are they then the exception to the rule?...and i myself probably play more games then the people who actually make them....and i am actively sexy..not fat and slobby...
My son played them, too, Bmw....no worries. He's an honor student.
Just a 'generalization' that obviously doesn't include everyone, but I'd definitely say it's still a means of escape.
oh and drawing here is not an escape? it's all relative... and yeah Flubbles, if you can get away with owning a gun these days.. you're ahead of the game over here, and you can actually protect yourself... imagine that
My escape is reading, I can really tune the world out with it. But Video games, man people make some serious money creating, hell, even playing games, so yeah. It's not like it's something that doesn't get you anywhere. You have a possible career doing what you love when you're a gamer, what's so bad about that?
*rolls eyes* okay, seriously. It is possible, I don't give a damn what you say. Just watch G4. And my brother is possibly one of the skinniest guys I have ever known, and he plays video games practically 24/7! He's underweight, not over weight.
Now I could just say, no, he doesn't, but you asked, so...'Suffering', probably not, effected? yes. Why are his pupils so dialated when there's obviously a bright light in his eyes? Why does he have the slightly grey circle under his left eye? What is he NOT doing when he plays video games? Not interacting, not learning. No offense meant at all, I just believe all kids and adults are somewhat effected by excessive video playing. It takes us all away from each other. My grandson is 7, he plays them. His father is often doing something else, so why not? Nothing against either of them, but it makes a great baby-sitter, doesn't it? Where's the interaction?
By the way, yes, drawing is, I suppose an escape, but why are we so quick to change the subject to speak about something else when we're talking about video games...nothing
else? I'd be interested to know who is making their living, Bubblicious on playing video games. The only ones making their living are those that create them. (Maybe your brother needs to stop playing long enough to eat!)
I think it all adds to the dumbing down and numbing down of America.
this is an old pic.. I don't know why his "pupils are so dilated" lol.. Carbon monoxide? We smoke. Oh what a filthy life of sinners.. We shouldall be shot. C'mon Miss DJ... When he is not playing games, he is in school, or with friends, or riding his bike, or spending time with me, or family, or playing with the animals... must everyone know everything... I love how I put myself up for grabs to be the "experiment" ya know? Tired of that scene... to be here for everyone to pick apart... but hey.. I've been a guinea pig for over 20 years in other ways.. may as well continue on.... If computers weren't necessary for school.. I wouldn't be on this one right now... some of it's all dumbing down but I see a need for kids to be kids, and not just run run run... that's escaping too... my kid happens to appreciate the time given to him after school to just be himself and not HAVE to follow the orders of some adult... and I can respect that.. respect goes two ways in my book.. not just one
I said practically 24/7, lol. And trust me, he does eat, he eats like a damn pig. Guys and their metabolism, it annoys the hell outta me. If you watch G4 (That is if you have it, I'm not sure what channel it is on) It's a t.v. network dedicated to gaming, and a few other things. Like Xplay, they review games. Obviously they need to play them too. There is a lot more too it then just playing the game, the games have to have good graphics, controls, story lines and characters. The game can't be repetitive, either. And that's just the tip of the iceberg, I think.
I sense you're a good mom from your comment about respect going both ways. So, no matter what your situation is, I'm sure you and he are both making the best of it.
(I mentioned what I did about smoking, because if turns out that although I quit smoking 20 years ago, I found out about 4-5 years ago that I have slight emphyzema. I take 2nd hand smoke much more seriously now that I know it could kill me).
Anything you deide to do could be considered an escape..so why not video games...I play video games at least 5 or 6 times a week..I really don't see what the big deal is..and I really don't give a shit...call it escape ..call it time away from my family..call it killing my brain cells..who cares ..I like it..and i have dealt with enough bullshit and tragedy in my life that i pretty much have erned the right to do what i want without needing to worry about it..

Now does he look like he's suffering from playing video games?
