The truth of the matter is that there are some people I know. There are some people I get to know, not in the sense of "getting to know you" but in the sense of I get to know them as in it's something I get to do.

Squinting to get rid of the distracting details, large strokes of bold color. Bringing weight and form with light and shadow, no details yet, arrangement, arrangement. How should this feel, what am I after? The light, the light. Now a little more detail, the eye. The sliver of intense light through the cornea at this angle is perfect...

Staring off into the distance..comfortable..like my whole life has led up to this one moment ..of me..posing for you..and i say.."do as you will"..

Smoke curls from the stub of cigarette that I've forgotten is still lodged firmly between two fingers. The room becomes a little more hazy as the sunlight streams through it and on to your form. I drop the stub and without thinking I grab a new smoke and put it between my lips, a few more strokes and I light up again...it's going well, I'm getting excited, it's looking like it should. I remind myself not to go to far, not to ruin it with unimportant details that would only serve to muddle things up.. but still, there need to be more just here...almost...almost

I stopped smoking 20 yrs ago...only to find out 6 or so years ago that I have the beginning of Emphysema. Apparently, if I don't smoke again, it won't kill me, but I take 2nd hand smoke much more seriously now. So, I guess I can't pose in person for Dan unless he draws smoke free. But, you kids have fun. Sounds like a movie....i'm gonna go get some popcorn...

The Reader...

Sudden piercing shrill, confusion, darkness, eyes blurred...what's this? Where am... the alarm, my crisp sheets, I reach and slap the button to stop the alarm. Breathing heavily in the dark a cool breeze wafts over my sweat soaked chest. It was a dream. I close my eyes desperate to find my way back to slumber for a chance to get back to that room, that woman, that painting... it's no use, I'm awake now. Awake and haunted in the dark by something that never was but will always be. I fumble for a smoke and light up in the dark, the smoke curls upward and the room becomes hazy, but this time there is no light.

back to the very first thing you said Dan, ....and some people make you think everyone ought to know you....... kejoco.. who knows what bird is goin' where, which reminds me, I gotta go feed the birds, and find a new place for all the seed.. we got mice comin' after the seed.. so now we got bird babies AND mouse babies here and they all got their mouths open, along with the cats and dog.. and lastly, I don't like presumptious people much and that's not about anyone in particular, that's a general statement that I thought I'd get out of my brain 'cause it's been stuck there for a while
