I heard that if you fill a plastic sandwich baggie halfway up with water and put a few pennies in it and then hang it in a window, it'll keep flies away. I didn't believe it, and then I did it anyway. I hung it up in the window in the computer room. There hasn't been one fly in here ever since. Sometimes I like to kneel on the bench under the window and rest my elbows on the window sill and hang out the window and smoke like some kind of whore in Berlin or something and feel the breeze and watch the cars go by and the people in the park, so I was just doing that. I sometimes do it wearing nothing but my underwear because no one can see anything but my top half anyway (the window is on the second floor) and I wonder if any passers by think I look like a whore in the window. So there I am smoking and enjoying my perch and I flick an ash and watch it float on the breeze for a moment and then fall toward the fence that separates my yard from the neighbors yard. It floated along until it hit the very top of the fence and sort of exploded into a few pieces and I thought about how strange to pay that much attention to see that happen and how strange that it came apart like that. Still no flies.

I keep a bowl full of water in my living room with pebbles in the bottom because it's meant to keep the air from getting dry, i have to fill it up every few weeks because the water just evaperates into the atmosphere.

Oh, I've never heard of pennies (copper?) in water to keep flies away.
I don't see the point of putting pebbles in with the water, but I do have ceramic container-thingies hanging on the radiator. In winter the water evaporates very quickly, but even if I don't put on the central heating the water evaporates. So that serves its purpose I guess. Curious so I looked up for why it might work. http://malaysia.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070730074916AAIZDay http://www.chacha.com/question/how-does-a-bag-of-water-with-a-penny-in-it-keep-flys-away http://community.discovery.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9701967776/m/5331932678 |

I just put the pebbles in so it was'nt just a random bowl with water in, they serve no purpose only to make it not look like ive just got a random bowl full of water. It's just so the air does'nt get really dry when i have the gasfire on.

Axil62 (Aug 16, 2009)
Colorado has very dry air. We have forced air heat and in the winter the air gets so dry that sometimes we get nosebleeds in our sleep.
enjoydotcom (Aug 16, 2009)
Aha, Okay, I thought maybe so the pebbles would give you some more minerals. Glad it is just a way to decoy the fact that you have a bowl of water there. :D.
Here we don't have dry heats. But in winter it can get really dry in the house. |

backmagicwoman (Aug 16, 2009)
There is a crazy tree frog singing outside my window..do you know how tiny some of those things are?..I'll never find him so I can move him which means I won't get any sleep tonight...
Axil62 (Aug 16, 2009)
Oh come on now, how loud can it possibly be?
Flubbles (Aug 16, 2009)
Things like that help me go to sleep, anything with a repetative rhythm and im away with the fairies, i especially like hoovers and hairdryers.
Axil62 (Aug 16, 2009)
soft piano music does it for me... or rain.... or Janice Joplin singing "Summer time". I only mention Joplin because she just came on the radio singing that song and I thought...yeah, that's good too.
backmagicwoman (Aug 16, 2009)
The rain helps me sleep and the hum of the air conditioner...
Um..he's really loud..lol..I am not kidding..and where I sleep is right next to the window..it allows for easy escape if necessary..lol |
Axil62 (Aug 16, 2009)
You wouldn't happen to have any fireworks in the house, would you?
backmagicwoman (Aug 16, 2009)

Rains good, i need some noise i cant go sleep if it's quiet.Joplin was a great talent she died way to early, why is it all the talented die young? or is that just a figment of my imagination.
Axil62 (Aug 16, 2009)
Well I think the reason the good ones seem to die young is because you never hear the media say "...and today so-n-so didn't die and they're not young either, and uh..."
backmagicwoman (Aug 16, 2009)
Because amazingly talented people almost always have certain kinds of issues..it tends to go hand in hand...I don't think you can really have one without the other...
Axil62 (Aug 16, 2009)
Oh great, that means were all fucked.

That sounds amazing, we get lots of large flies and live on an island. It's so humid all the time so we get headaches. I get dizzyspells so often.
About mj, it was definitely that monkey thing he had in the 80's. Or maybe the sun. |

I use a fly swatter, crazy bastards think they're gonna come get into my coffee sugar bowl, they got another thing comin'! ya know, among other crap... it's humid as a hollow armpit today... no moisture issues here... sometimes in winter I just run the tea kettle to boil, then turn it off, open the nozzle and let it get in the air... always gotta worry about too much moisture though... don't want any mushrooms in my nostrils... it's almost 8, and I am so ready for sleep. long night last night, here's to prayin' tonight won't be another
