NekoChibi (Aug 13, 2009)
Up in till a couple years ago my family realized that I enjoy doing art (mostly anime). I'm not the best at it, and there a still a lot of tools I am clueless of. So all I ever got for gifts was loads of art tool's and stuff. The problem is, I don't have any good use for them and I don't have the time to research them and stuff. So I have more than 150 oil pastels, and pretty much every color. But I'm the one who can use them to THE LEAST EXTENT. I also have a whole art kit with paints, pastels, colored pencils, and more. But I don't have much use for them.... Not to mention the program called "Manga Studio EX" In the most updated version at the time. It was really cool to do the digital art at first; But there are so many cool patterns, and shades and effects. If a pro or experienced person had it they would be able to start a manga or cover art smack-down. But me, I'm an ameture who knows the least of the least on how to use that jacked up program. I'm researching...

Why not look up some tutorials, there are a million out there. Just Google : Pastel tutorial. Or what have you. Or go to deviantart.com and look for tutorials there.

You can also get some really neat technique books from the local book store and the craft store...

Experiment and practice! There are a plethora of resources out there to help if you don't know where to start. Don't worry that you're not using your supplies like an expert since using them is the only way you'll gain the experience to begin with. b :

Thats just it >.< I don't have time for tutorials, I don't know how to make good use of them.

You don't have time? But you have time for 2draw. I'd say it's not a matter of having time, I'd say your friends and family went overboard and piled a bunch of nice gifts upon you and now you feel guilty about not using them because you really aren't as dedicated to drawing that crap as you may have had them believe and now they're all sort of waiting for you to instantly be brilliant at it but you just aren't as enthused as they are about the whole thing. At least not enthused enough to actually take the time and effort to learn something.

All I am gonna say is that you should consider yourself fortunate that your family believes in you enough to give you these things..if I had that kind of support when i was little then I would be have definitely found the time to put them to good use and research them and learn how to use them and i would be a billionaire by now....so..honestly stop complaining and do something with it so your family hasn't spent their money in vain...or better yet mail it to me and i'll show you what I'd do with it....when you get older you will wish you had listened to the people here and their excellent advice...especially when you end up flipping burgers for unappreciative jerks like i do for money..I know you're young..but grow up already..
anyway..after this weekend I won't see you guys for a little while.. |

I would be insulted if someone gave a away a gift they gave me.
And I agree with Axil, you have time for 2draw, so be honest, you don't feel like looking up and following tutorials. Awww, BMW, don't leave us... :"( |

Nooo! BMW! DONT GO! I know I haven't been around much lately, but I would miss you :(
NekoChibi, consider yourself lucky to have all those supplies. I wish I had that many supplies! Even if I didn't use them immediately, I would just look at them in awe and become inspired. My mom and dad have always been supportive of me and my art (Althouh my mom hates "that anime shit") but they are still supportive. Usually I have to scrap by and use just regular notebook paper when I dont have something like printer paper to draw on, and a plain ol' number 2 pencil. Other than my tablet, that's the most of my art supplies. Make some time for it. If you can go on 2draw for even fifteen minutes, or any other site, you can make some time to learn how to draw, and use a tutorial. It will take some time, believe me. I started drawing the Disney Princess (which is why I only draw girls and can't draw guys worth a crap...>.<) when I was five, so I had time, being fifteen now. Just practice, look at something, attempt to draw it, and dont get frustrated when it doesn't look exactly like the object you drew. Thats a good way to give up something so wonderful. Not everyone has artistic talent, and you should consider yourself lucky you even enjoy it. I don't know how many times someone has told me they wished they could draw like I do (not that I'm bragging, I'm trying to prove a point) and it would be a shame if you didn't even try to learn when all of these other people wish they could do what you do. I don't know. I'm rambling. But yes, try. It takes tons of practice, I seriously doubt that anyone on this site was perfect when they first started. |
