Miss_DJ (Apr 30, 2009)
absolutely freakin hysterical! almost as funny as this text message I got today:

"It's been said that pigs would fly before this country would have a black President,
100 days into this Presidency, SWINE FLU....(pigs be a-flyin)"
firecracker (Apr 30, 2009)
I'm just wonderin' why people like to refer to President Obama as a "black" president, when he is just as much white as he is black.
backmagicwoman (Apr 30, 2009)
Cause when your'e of mixed race of caucasian and african american...your'e considered more black than you are white....I don't know why it is...but I know that when my sister enrolled her kids in school she had to put down african american as their race even though they are mixed with white...and my other sister had to put hers down as mexican even though they are mixed with white too....so I don't know...
Bubblicious (Apr 30, 2009)
WELL, Obaama is also Middle Eastern-ish so... yeah... he's also something else. Roman, maybe??? I dont know. I think it all comes down to racism, honestly. But that's just me.

(Nice pig by the way... Is her name Mrs. Piggy?)

I taught the Civil Rights Movement Years during summer school for a few years. It stems back to Slavery in America and the Jim Crow Laws that were enacted after Slavery was abolished, due to the fears of the White Southerners fearing the freed slaves, another tactic to demoralize an entire race because of thier own insecurites(my opinion) Here is the historical reasoning behind why this matter of race concerning African Americans evolved....however stupid it is....

backmagicwoman (Apr 30, 2009)
Thank you QT for posting that link..cause in my roundabout way..that is what i was talking about....
TaCO (Apr 30, 2009)

Miss_DJ (May 1, 2009)
Firecracker, I agree with you entirely. Actually there are many blacks (which is what 'they' wanted to be called before someone came up with the 'African-American' title, which, in my opinion isn't fitting since few that reside here are actually from Africa) there are many blacks that look DOWN upon mixed race i.e. white/black mixes because they're somehow not 'black enough' to be a valid 'African-American'....but, I'd guess that most are referring to Obama as black and not as white because this way, they can stand behind him as a race and be proud to have an 'African American' in the Oval office.
But, I see him as he is: Mulatto

Mulatto is a term used to describe a person with one white parent and one black parent, or a person whose ancestry is a mixture of black and white.

He is the first mulatto President. Not as 'catchy' of a phrase, is it?
Kloxboy (May 2, 2009)
Miss DJ: I think Obama is perceived as black because racial definitions seem to be more about appearances than anything else. For instance, in terms of race, do you think Obama looks more black or white? Based on what black represents visually, I would say Obama looks more black. Mariah Carey (who is also bi-racial), I would say she looks more white. Another great example is Tiger Woods, who is more Asian than anything else but is labeled as black based on what he looks like.

Then there's people like me who come from a white family but look bi-racial (to more people than you might think). Growing up and being mistaken as Asian (or sometimes Spanish), was pretty confusing at first but in time I grew to embrace it. And, as I mentioned earlier, I learned that race is far more visual than anything else. As well, most of the scientific community dismisses race as being a legitimate classification of human beings.

I think they'd go with biracial before they said "first mulatto president". Some people are saying "first minority President" but that isn't' "catchy" either.
jpjp1052 (May 2, 2009)
First "Socialist" president describes him better than anything else.
Roytje (May 2, 2009)
Even a pig painting turns into a Obama discussion here.

But hey, nice painting.
backmagicwoman (May 2, 2009)
My sister has five children of mexican and white mixed and three of them look like they are white and the other two look like they are mexican..and my other sister has four children who are mixed with white and black and they look more black than white......personally I believe we are all mixed with something down the line..so it' really doesn't matter...
JK-Arts (May 15, 2009)
I think Color has nothing to do with anything that should be political and it is a shame to me that people judge-another-by-color/race, refering to any persons charactorist as a person with or without a demener. "In those eyes who see only my color, shall those eyes only recieve what is only skued and may they blink so thier ears hear the truth." (JK-Arts)
If i couldn't be any more relative I like the pigs color it comes off pleasant so i supposed it is a nice pig and it wouldn't snap at me when i tell it "Doctor i have no health insurence" !
