vlad.the.hamster (Apr 17, 2009)
Roytje should file a patent for his painting style. It's awesome enough, right? :P
Suntan (Apr 17, 2009)

Looks good so far...
firecracker (Apr 17, 2009)
Very nice draw so far.....I hope you finish it. The eye looks kinda young though......old people's eyes are more aged than that. But I guess since you are'nt finished with this draw.....that you will "age the eye a little more. Great draw so far!!! :)
ChalkDust (Apr 17, 2009)

Heaven.

firecracker (Jun 21, 2009)
Very nice draw......:)
Frd (Jun 21, 2009)
I don't think it should be move to intermediate. It's an absolutly beautiful and intense picture. Great stuff.
Bubblicious (Jun 21, 2009)
It is Frd, but it's not advanced. If he had stuck with the old man, it would be a different story. *shrugs*
HiroDaZero (Jun 21, 2009)
Noone else sees the volcano? :/
Bubblicious (Jun 21, 2009)
I do. I also see a plane crashing, the smoke rising out of a orange sky, while the birds soar freely when the man cannot.

Okay, so weird.
Roytje (Jun 22, 2009)
It wasn't my intention to draw a tree this time, Vlad ;)
Frd (Jun 22, 2009)
I think that's a question of oppinion. What makes something worthy of the advanced board? Is it just having crazy detail and realism? What is so great about realism? Nature, photographs and boring people can do realism, I'll let that to them. Art ain't about realism no more. Sure it will impress people, but is that really the point? Will they feel or think as much as they would with, for example, this piece? In my oppinion, this work is done with perfect execution. Everything is at it's best place, the colors are geniusly chosen and the effect is stunning. And I still see the old man.
Roytje (Jun 22, 2009)
Nop, advanced isn't about the style. It's about the execution of it, just like you said.

But I didn't put the (needed) 2 houres in this piece, so like the rules say: This isn't advanced ;)

A lady to picasso: "Can you do me a drwaing?" Picasso: "sure." and he takes a napkin and 30 seconds later, gives it to the lady. Picasso:"That'll be 50 000$" the lady is outraged."What!?Screw you, I'm not paying for that shit, it just took you 30 seconds!" Picasso:"no, ma'am, it took me 40 years." Screw the rules, art ain't about time either. Oh, and sorry for poluting your comment space with art philosophy... ^^;

Hi :)
I can see an old man looking down too! wait.. did you draw him on purpose, like he really is in heaven?!
You have great color combination here roy, as always. :)
But-I find the lines on the right disturbing, They kind of take me out of the story I could have built around this piece. maybe it was intended, don't know.. but I liked the piece better without them, like in the previous version.

edit- Im with that lady, even if it took him 40 years, it would be much better at 40 years and an hour!
gerbear (Jun 24, 2009)
In my opinion, compositionally, this piece is brilliant. You have two completely different pictures here, the left side all simple and monochromatic with just warm colors and large simple shapes and the right side is full of action, warm and cool colors, blurred and sharp lines, smaller shapes, etc etc. The two meet in the middle at the center of the volcano and my gaze is caught there, just as it should be. The part i like best are the vertical lines on the left, without them the left side would not be strong enough to balance the seething wildness on the right. They also keep the birds from becoming too much of a distraction. Simply wonderful.

I have been a fan of your work for quite a few yrs even tho I do not comment.
