Yes it is surreal and shocking.....it remeinds me of a young man that I knew back in the early 70's.....he lived across the street from me. He joined the Marines, and was sent to Viet Nam. He wasn't over there very long when a terrible trajedy happened to him. He was walking behind a soldier who happened to step on a land mine.....well the soldier who stepped on the land mine was instantly killed.....and my neighbor who was walking behind him was horribly wounded. He was sent to an Army hospital in Guam. He was there for a long time before he was well enough to be sent home. Finally he was sent home. I remember going across the street to visit him....I was shocked....he was horribly "messed up". That's all I can say about this story....it still makes me sad when I think about it. War is just so stupid.......so many people die for nothing. Anyway......this draw just brought back some very sad memories for me.
That about says it....."the horror of it all".....I think Marlon Brando said that in a movie called "Apocalypse Now". I think I remember him saying....."the horror of it all".
I don't like war either.. but there is the question, which is better, to die defending what you believe to be right, or to die because you just let the opposition have their way? I don't for one minute think it's right to kill, unless you're smacking a mosquito, but there is a drive to fight for what's right
There are times when war is unavoidable. It's always tragic and horrific , and yes, a waste, but until man evolves a lot more, there will be armed conflicts..and you have to stand up for what you believe and love.
Well.. I'm sure some of the younger ones have lost relatives and friends in these latest wars...my dad served in WWII in the Marines and Korea in the Air Force..I lost friends from High School and college in Viet Nam, and one very good friend came home ruined after he stepped on a landmine , he lived, but he lost half a leg and had brain damage. I was fortunate not to have to go off to war, but I'm sure some who went and didn't get killed or wounded carry emotional scars from all the horrific things they've seen and had to do.
I'm sure of that too, my father is a Marine, but unless they were drafted, they had a choice, I believe choice is very important, I also kind of wish there wasn't an age limit, if you want to fight or are capable of helping in some other way, well have at it.... I'd gladly go befriend Veterans, nurse them, do whatever.. anyway, there will be emotional scars from just about anything life hands you.. and I'm talking too much again :P can't help myself, I was quiet for a long time
I don't know the film, just the jacob's ladder wooden toy that appears to be climbing :) I will have to look into the whole Jacob's ladder story more, I know it's really something to think about
the plot I read for the film was that it was about a veteran who came out of the war and started being attacked by horned creatures and then his son came to visit him? lol typical guy flick... I'm gonna stick with the bible story, makes for better dreams tonight
I guess if I had to choose which way I would die......I would rather die fighting for what I truly believe.....than to die letting the opposition have their way.
