Question to experienced Photoshop users. How accurate is the Gamut warning tool? As I understand it, if a color is overlayed with a gray when you have "Gamut warnig" on, the color will be off when you print it. Now, does it mean it just makes the colors look a little different or will the entire object that has splodges of gray look blurred and ugly? It will be printed by a professional card company by the by. Its for a baby announcement card I'm making.

Thanks for the tip Dave. Sent a person I think might help me a note. I really don't want that what I have made look like poop on paper. Because it looks quite cool right now and having them printed is very expensive. If it was just for me, I would't mind it that much if it has flaws.

Are you working in RGB or CMYK?

RGB, I thought It is better to use CMYK, but thought of that too late.

Basically CMYK cannot represent all colors that RGB can represent. So it's possible the gamut warning is telling you that you have colors that don't exist in CMYK and it will have to change them. You can always convert your image between RGB and CMYK to see what it will look like on your screen (which won't tell you much about what the printer will print unless your screen is calibrated correctly and you have the printer's color profile setup on photoshop).
Ideally what you want is to get a proof from the company printing your cards before they print all of them. That proof will let you know what the colors are like... alternatively, you may be able to print your own version on your own printer (assuming you have a good printer) and send it along to the printers as a reference (IE, tell them, "match the colors to this"). |

I'm tempted to make all your youtube links automatically redirect to teletubbies.

Thanks for your input Marcello, very helpful. Not sure if the company my cousin has selected is able to provide with proofprints. It doesn't matter that much if the colors don't match 100%, as long as it isn't blurry. I will however switch from RGB to CMYK to see what happens.
edit: Just changed it from RGB to CMYK, and the colors look even nicer! So I worried for nothing. |
