If you put a splodge of bird shit on your head it would look like my bird has shat on your head dude.Another good self portrait, you really do love yourself, i dont know anybody else who has done so many.
enjoydotcom (Jan 6, 2009)
I get it, using yourself as a subject. Always available, no need to ask for permission, and you do not have to look for the perfect pose, you just do it yourself.
Flubbles (Jan 6, 2009)
I was just kidding! If i was the greatest man in the world id draw myself more often aswell.

Kidding aside, self-portraits are almost like a 'rite of passage' for great portrait/figure painters, this is evident when looking at some of the key paintings throughout art history. Self-portraits tend to communicate aspects of the artist's personality that might not be easily observed through other types of paintings (or other forms of communication for that matter). For this reason, I respect artists who do self-portraits because they're sharing something unique about themselves, whether they intend to or not.

As for Dan's portrait, it's really cool! Classic composition, bold strokes, what's not to like? I could say more, maybe break down the psychological intent of this piece, taking the composition into consideration, maybe even discuss the possible intent for the subtle expression, the overall mood and how it relates to the artist BUT this isn't a portrait class, so we'll skip that bit.
