good first draw. cept the scythe looks rounded..like a giant nail/claw thing. but practice makes perfect, or so they say.
Soshell (edited Jan 22, 2004)
i think the scythe is in perspective like its pointing foreward..maybe thats why it didnt bother me at first glance, anyway this is a pretty good picture for your first with a tablet i heard those are difficult to get used to...*uses a mouse*
Fin_beast (edited Jan 22, 2004)
Pretty good Rhian!
heh heh.
Whey!
We HAVE to do a collab!
But....if you want critisism...The hands are a bit less detailed...they look like spanners.
Are you liking Lascaux?
reenaleena (Jan 23, 2004)
hehe spanner hands, yeah i agree with the comments, guess practice makes perfect tho!

Instead of drawing a human character, I tested a furry.
I dunno if it's good so tell me about it (I need to know how to draw a furry for a game I'll make ... someday).

he's cute, but you might wanna make his nose a bit smaller and the fur on his chest is kinda weird >>;
but nice
marcello (Jan 22, 2004)
haha.
I agree about the chest fur, not that you shouldn't put any, but the lines don't have the same quality as everything else.

Ok I arranged the fur on his chest, it should be better now :)
staci (Jan 23, 2004)
yeah i find the whole furry thing freaky, personally..but his chest fur does look better

This is really awesome, and it really does look real. It looks like a prison wall to me, lol. Very nice!
staci (Jan 22, 2004)

HAHA. No foot stomping. I just put comments on your other pics, go read those and then come back to this one. Now, you have already made some progress. You have a light source (an obvious one) and you made some highlights hitting her hair. Youve got the idea. Except since it's coming from behind her we cant do much with that. If we pretend its coming more from the left, you can add some highlights to the left side of the picture (her right side) try highlighting that side of her face, arm and her dress, graduating the color value to lighter the closer it is to the light source. Just keep working at it! : )
staci (Jan 22, 2004)
i agree with archer..good idea..light source..improvement...etc. pehaps you should start off with some inanimate objects. or just faces...and make your canvas bigger so you arent trying to squeeeeeeze all this detail in.
Childlike_Vampire (Jan 22, 2004)
This seems really obvious, but the most "smack your forehead duh" kind of good advice that helped me with shading was to "make your darks darker and your lights lighter". The higher the contrast between the light and the dark, the more 3d a picture looks. ^^
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jan 22, 2004)
Yes, Dixie! Both of the above great advice! Read and heed... :)

funny you should say that, the photo I looked at was from a ruin of an insane asylum! I wish my version looked like the photo...kind of lonely and disturbing. I'll keep practicing, I'm only a doodler and have never painted.
staci (Jan 21, 2004)
yeah i think its disturbing but a tad too clean. thats why a urine or blood stain might add to the eerie-ness. but i like it just like it is as well
ToraNeko (Jan 21, 2004)
>.< Eww, Okay, nasty images to that comment Icats, but yes, I agree. Darken the sheets, rust on the frame, and the frame is too shiny to be glum. It looks goldeny, now we are thinking of happy ponies! Not nasty stuff on the floor....
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jan 21, 2004)
OMG! Never mind me napping there then! lol Please dont stain the sheeeeeeets!!!! ;)

HAHA. okay, if she wasnt scary before...she is now. i tried some shading, and now she just looks bruised, lol. umm...guess its >>back to the drawing board<< *hehe* im gonna practice some light/dark stuff *sigh*
DeadlyBlondeArcher (Jan 21, 2004)
Okay, Dix, it's not _that_ scary. :) lol. It's really great for a beginning. With every piece you do, you'll learn and evolve. On this one, I think your choice of colors is really good, even in the skin tones. For the shading on a face, try to remember to highlight the plains and darken the receding places for shadows. Blend it with the rest of the face. And for shading in your backgrounds and with objects, to get perspective remember that colors are less vibrant the farther away they are, and things are less defined in general. Now practice some more! And if u have a tablet, USE IT! You've got talent! Love ya Dixie. :)
