from a distance it looked like the thumb was a bald man staring at me. I like making digital art over things like paintings because of less time needed to make something and more flexability with working and reworking an area without ever running out of materials or wearing through the paper, etc.

Very nice grayscale drawing but the things edge is kinda flat its like a frown shaped edge urs is like [ more than ( but otherwise i'd believe that was a real hand

Rick, Great first shot at a drawing! You snuck this in without telling me. I think recognise that thumb...
Try starting out with a grey background (you can set that in the bottom layer, or work right on top of it).
You can add white for highlights, and it helps to 'see' better. (pure white rarely exsists in reality).

So, you got a tablet?

This is looking wonderful already. He looks a little like my neighbors dog, who unfortunately is not treated well. He just brings on the aww factor. I actually like it just like this. Has a charcoal look to it.
