The one that started it all.

Prelim for now, more detail and coloring to come. Though I like it sketchy like this.

I'm happy with it.

Awww, that's real neat.

I love this I love this. Your stuff makes me want to re-read "Coffee, Tea, or Me?" just for the toons.
DeadlyBlondeArcher (edited Apr 2, 2007)
It's really, really cute. She doesn't look Chinese, but the feet remind me of that torturous thing they used to do there with "foot binding". I'm glad that never caught on around here. Being a size 9 shoe, you could have cinched mine with a bullrope and they would have been big anyway. hah

This was inspired by Socks, a song by Gesolent Day. It's cute. :D

Only reason this is still "alive" is because I rather liked how the beak turned out. I used a "how to draw animals-book" to make this. Lol, only that book uses natural media, I wanted to find out how it'd look done with oekaki. Every time I say to myself: "Time to pick up some of your non-digital stuff" but Oekaki gives much less mess. Soooo... lol

So much warmth, beauty and grace, I couldn't escape her.
Everything is what I offered her and everything is what she became.
But, so I found out, she was never meant to be with. Once this was known, there was no rekindling the flame.
In my mind, she remains so vivid, attempts to forget her and her love have proven agonizingly difficult.
I was left with unrequited love, a curse so consuming it plagued my every thought...but why? and for who?
I was naive, not recognizing she was damned when I first met her.
She was blind and lead me to be blinded myself, this is the way of the damned.
Strong poison are the damned, their sickness lingers way too long.
I now know it is better to reject the damned.
Let the damned be damned.

Looking back
on the memory of
The dance we shared
beneath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known you'd ever say goodbye
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end
the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance
Holding you
I held everything
For a moment
wasn't I the king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end
the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd' have had to miss the dance
Yes my life
is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
but I'd have had to miss the dance
Garth Brooks

You'll dance again :).

Hey klox, you've really tapped into something great here, in terms of layering and dimension, the implications are awesome, very inspiring.
ranger90039 (Mar 27, 2007)
I keep looking at this piece, it's got this creepy Pinocchio, mannequin feel to it. it would be interesting to see you do a few scary fairy tale drawings. =D
Zack (Apr 30, 2007)
Holy shit, bro. I love this Duchamp-ey kinda stuff you're doing. If I ever get good enough or noticeable enough that people bother to ask me who my influences are, you're going to be on the short list.

Sweetcell, thanks for the comments on the drawing. I thought the black was a little harsh also..but I was copying a ref. pic. I don't know what to do with her nose, it is shaped weird in the ref. pic too, but I may fool with it a little later or go find some other pics of Betty to use for the ref. on her nose. I haven't been here in a long time and I am kind of out of practice with the applet. But I plan to get lots of practice here very soon. Thanks again!
Sweetcell (Mar 25, 2007)
No prob KD, if you need to someone a while back did a Betty Page picture. It's on the showcase page (no pun intended ;D) I think maybe it just needs to be rounder. Do you have a link to the ref?
ranger90039 (Mar 25, 2007)
if i may make a suggestion, i'd say learn what you can from this one and just start a new piece, sometimes you can get stuck on trying to fix something when its easier to start over. Betty has a few key characteristics that make her look the way she does, the shape of her eyes and her thin upper lip, if you want good illustrated reference of her, i'd suggest looking at some of OLIVIA's work, she has done a large volume of pinups of her, and if you want something a little simpler you can check out Dave Stevens.
KuteDymples (Mar 25, 2007)
Thanks Sweetcell, I will check it out. I don't have the link, I have it saved on my computer. ranger, also please make as many suggestions as you would like...I am here to get better at my art. I will check out the artists and Thank you both very much for the help.

Inspired by this piece. This is what I draw when I'm trying too hard to avoid work. I sketched this in pencil, scanned it in and then used the text import method. Yay for super hero love children! :D

Brilliant, just brilliant. LOL, I want this on a shirt. A nice comfortable long sleeve shirt, and on the back it says,

"I am Batman and Wolverine's love child.

Don't &*%@ with me."

:D
HunterKiller_ (Mar 25, 2007)
Actually, there is an official Marvel character that is a cross between Batman and Wolverine. From way back.
Punky (Mar 30, 2007)
This is awesome. I love how you combined the batman and x-men logos together.
You're great. :D
Alex-Cooper (Apr 6, 2007)
This is rad. I'm going to have to give that text importing method a try. Clearly works and looks real well.

davincipoppalag (Mar 25, 2007)
great looking sketch!
Sweetcell (Mar 25, 2007)
Exactly, it wasn't enough you sketched them out (my God this is amazing) but you made it look as if you had done this on paper, scanned it, and uploaded it. I do hope you do a full colored piece once. Batman and Wolverine fighting OVER their lovechild? :D

Batman, my favorite character ever and you did him so baddass. I just wish it were a little darker, but it's a quibble.

I love your sketches! At some sites you're not allowed to post sketches, which think is nonsens. To me it is more impressive when someone can sketch something believable (< that word looks weird), than when a lot of color is used. Do I make sense?
ranger90039 (Mar 23, 2007)
thanks enjoydotcom

believable (< that word looks weird) "i" before "e" except after "c" :P maybe thats why it looks a little weird.

I enjoy just sketching, there's a lot more freedom to it. my sketch books have pages filled with just faces, arms legs, thumbnails. rarely will i do a finished drawing, unless its for work.
Kloxboy (Mar 23, 2007)
She's never looked so hot. Those eyes and that smile, really cute.
Sweetcell (Mar 23, 2007)
Hope one day you do attempt a fully finished piece here one day. Reminds me of Don Bluth and his type of animation before Disney switched to computer animation.
