I don't like her hair much..had probs with it...had probs with her face too...Not really finished with it but for now...she'll wait. used ref for body/pose, but made her boobs bigger, used another ref for the sunglasses and another for her hair, although that didn't help me much. I embellished on the shine...as you can see =) I enjoyed doing this one! Hope you enjoy looking at it =)

I always know in advance "if", and, "where" I'm gonna burn it and/or dodge it but I typically wait until the last part of the drawing to add my punch. Many times, I admitt, I punch a bit too hard...I think out of sheer excitement for what the tools do, and I end up going over board.

In this case, I have to agree with vlad. about it being excessive on the hair, BUT, I did intend on shinning up her figure with as much punch as I could in order to give her the shinniest golden luster I could get! I wanted a "POW! IN YOUR FACE, WHO TURNED UP THE SUN AND WHERE'S MY SUNGLASSES" shine for this one...=)

I know, Flubbs, that you weren't going out of your way to be an ass and I do appreciate your opinion. The fact that you even said you think I'm talented is inspiring enough. I've worked VERY hard for the last 3 yrs on my digital art because I wanted to produce works like some of the amazing & masterful artists I've seen here do. Honestly I never dreamed 3 yrs ago that I could produce a drawing such as this one or many others I've done here!

So I thank you ALL kindly for your opinions, compliments, encouragements and critiques! U people ROCK!

I have to say I agree with elly. Just being here makes people strive to improve because you guys are all so awesome. ^_^

Crazy picture, really good :) The second one was almost enough to be a great painting.

was 55 when, astride her horse, she watched the British Navy defeat the Spanish Armada. Cate Blanchett was in her 30's when she did the movie. This is really frustrating because every couple of minutes the drawing tools just stop working for about 10 seconds. I don't know if it's my computer or what but it sure makes drawing a pain in the butt. The real QE1 was swarthy with reddish hair and brown eyes, a hooked nose and thin lips.
Here's a link to the ref photo.

I don't know what happened to the b/g? It didn't look like that when I posted it. Anyway, we can fix it later. A rough sketch to start with.

I don't blame you for not wanting to live anywhere else.....it sounds fabulous there. I bet your island is surrounded by nice clean water.....not spoiled by any oil spills. I bet the fishing is great there,,,,,do you do any fishing at all?? Maybe you might do a draw of your island sometime.....it would be interesting to see.......:)
Luniki (Jun 23, 2010)
I'd never have the patience to draw sth so detailled!
Flubbles (Jul 1, 2010)
The good thing is when you do a collab you only have to do half of the work.

My nephew graduated from the" Pittsburgh Art Institute", but he still hasn't found a job in that "field" as of yet.....but he is a very good artist, and he enjoyed going to Art School. Best of luck to you Roytie....I bet you'll do fine in art school.....you are definitely very talented. :)

Way back in the mid 60's, I lived in Los Angeles, and I was fortunate enough to be given tickets to go to "The Hollywood Bowl" to see Peter, Paul, and Mary live in concert. It was an awesome concert.....they are great folk singers. One of my fave songs of theirs is "Puff the magic Dragon".

Is it conceited to keep going back to look at your own work? I always wonder if other people do it.
padmooks (Jul 1, 2010)
I do it. its okay.
Flubbles (Jul 1, 2010)
I think were all a bunch of show offs.

I did this a while ago. I was experimenting with the texture tools to try and mimic watercolour with a textured paper effect. It likely doesn't belong on the advanced board, but I hope it gives some of you some ideas.

It's beautiful! And it does look like watercolor.
Suntan (May 27, 2010)
hmmm..I missed this! wow, you really did do a great job recreating watercolor. It's lovely, like a cove of a larger lake. Quite familiar looking! :)
jekyll (May 27, 2010)
Thank you, all. I've never really tried using watercolour to paint with and to be honest, it never really appealed to me. Lately, however, Ive gained an interest in it and have been studying various techniques on the web. I hope to give it a try in the near future. I made this scene up but there are many places like this in the area where I live. I suppose it's time I start taking advantage of it. It'd be a good excuse to just sit by a lake, anyway.
Suntan (Jun 24, 2010)
Have you been taking advantage of it yet? :)
