Gamut warning help needed.

Question to experienced Photoshop users. How accurate is the Gamut warning tool? As I understand it, if a color is overlayed with a gray when you have "Gamut warnig" on, the color will be off when you print it. Now, does it mean it just makes the colors look a little different or will the entire object that has splodges of gray look blurred and ugly? It will be printed by a professional card company by the by. Its for a baby announcement card I'm making.

I know the economy is for crap right now but you can usually get a tablet for a pretty decent price at wacom.com..or you can google which type you would like to have and you can sometimes find some really good deals....now I am off to pick the children's up from school..
