thank you all so much, he was a bit of work. I enjoy birds a lot. Saw my first bright yellow goldfinch a couple of days ago. They some to my feeder all winter long but are olive green until Spring. They are so efferdescent, just lovely. One of them was trying to come through our picture window with no lulck. At least he did not bang into it. When we were out in Willmar, on the lake, they would crash into our very large picture window and often times die, sometimes just get stunned. It would scare the petunias out of me, but I always felt guilty as if I were killing them (our window used as a trap) I guess they see the reflection of the trees and sky etc. and think that it is just normal space and come crashing into it.

omg elly, this is stunning. Your pics have a tendency to surprize me. The thumbs don't always look like much, but when I open them they are totally interesting and dynamic. Good one here. I also love the little details you add, like the shooting star....and the back of the moon's purple glow. Love it.

"Ewwwww".....a nasty roach.....I like most kinds of "bugs".....but I don't care much for these nasty critters. I remember (years ago).....my husband owned a few rental houses, and he had rented this one little house to a woman who turned out to be a complete "slob"'lol"! She would leave garbage all over the place, and that atrracted roaches . Well.....my husband finally had to evict this woman.....but she left the apartment a total mess.....it was "infested" with roaches. He had to get some roach "bombs" to kill all the roaches......then he had me get my camera, and we went over to the apartment, and it was unbelievable.....the place was filled with dead roaches....it was unreal. I took lots of pictures of all the dead bugs and all the other destruction in that apartment. I still have those pictures too. Thanks for the "roach" memory!! "LOL"!!!! A very good "roach" draw "Pencil"!! :D

The grossest roach experience I had was when I delivered appliances and tvs for my cousin's store. He sent us out on a repossession of a large console TV to one of the projects in town. We picked it up and brought it to the back room of the store and it wouldnt work, so the service guy took the back off,and there must have been 10,000 roaches in the back of that thing (they loved electronic components apparently)..anyway..they had to spray all around on the floor for about five feet from the thing, threw a tarp over it..and set off a roach bomb under there.. I never saw so many roaches in my life.Gross
Bubblicious (Apr 21, 2009)
I hate them, and I really really really hate them in the house. I keep on telling my mom to buy stuff to kill the lil bastards, but she hasn't yet :(
backmagicwoman (Apr 21, 2009)
My worst raoch experience...when me and my sister were cleaning a trailer for these people who rented them out ...and the people who got kicked out had these bull dogs and were fighting them...well we went there and the people had left the dogs behind and no one knew.....when we went inside the dogs had fought themselves to death and there was blood a feces everywhere oyu could see and about 5 billion roaches crawling everywhere through it...and not only that but it was apparent that children had been living there as well becasue some parts of the trailer were knee deep in shitty diapers and the roaches were everywhere...and I don't know if a lot of people know this but roaches have a very distinct smell..and i had to quit cleaning houses because i found out I was allergic to the brown spotty stuff they leave behind when they crawl all over everything....I jsut call it raoch shit becaus ethat is basically what it is....and I totally just threw up in my mouth from telling this story...yuck... |

Aww..look at me ...I a puppy...
QTgillie (edited Apr 21, 2009)
I think it just takes practice. One thing I would do for sure though is to make the background first and then put the puppy on the next layer. Also, possibly just do a couple just for fun. Slab a bunch of color, thickly on the canvas and then just use the smudge and blend brushes and push the paint around to see what effects you can get. For example, you could make the trees and branches first then just blob on some different shades of greens here and there on the branches and then smudge them around to form leafy shapes. Make any sense???? I think this pup is pretty cute BTW.I rarely use the airbrush, usually just the watercolor brush with lots of flow and little opacity. Vibrant colours. You might try watching a little of my hawk, I just keep adding colour until it is what I want, if I don't like it I just add more colour. The hawk took me much longer than it should have cause I couldnt get the feathers the way I wanted. It has two layers, just the background and the hawk on the second llayer. There might be some tutorials around for it. Don't hesitate to ask Q's, I love to TRY and help, not sure if it does any good tho, esp. here, you all are such seasoned artists.
