Teapot (Jun 2, 2011)
Thanks, Suntan and Miss DJ. It was inspired by a photo of silhouettes I saw at DA. Was going to ref it but now I can't find it. Doesn't really look anything like the photo. I just liked the effect of the lighting.

lol...i was swatting flies and hit one so hard it bounced up in the air and went right down my bra.
Flubbles (edited May 31, 2011)
When I was younger my friend tossed a frog up in the air and hit it with his tennis racket, I couldn't understand why he would want to harm such a helpless little creature, so I dipped a stick in some cow pat and chased him around the field with it, eventually I caught up with him and smeared it all in his hair. He went home crying, but I never saw him toss a frog up in the air again.
Axil62 (May 31, 2011)
Oh like you never used a tennis raquet to Julian a frog or two.

For me he was always Sir William Balls. I think this title sums his vulgar-british-yet-taking-baths personality :)

I miss his frequent posts.
Flubbles (May 29, 2011)
I'm giving drawing a break, I was cranking out alot of shit and felt my heart wasn't really in to it so my standards were beginning to slip a little.

I think this one deserves showcase. Who says you have to spend many hours for it to be showcase?
Artiste (Jul 28, 2011)
your brushstrokes with the digital brush are very "digital" looking... I often find myself thinking, when I look at your paintings, that if they were actual paint strokes that your paintings would really be quite brilliant. Something about the roundness of the brushstrokes seems like a waste... like the viewer is cheated out of seeing the 'hand' in the work. This could almost be like a debate about digital vs. real painting. I strive when, I paint here, to constantly make those round, digital strokes not look so like they are done with a computer, as if I'm trying to pass my paintings on here as canvas paintings. You dont bother with that and just let yourself be free... hmmm.
Axil62 (Jul 28, 2011)
This is digital, we don't need to pretend it's not. It's free and forgiving and the only thing you need to live up to is in your head.
Suntan (Jul 29, 2011)
..and I believe that if you sat down with a canvas it would come out just as beautiful. Different, because it's real paint, but just as beautiful.

See if this elicits any type of emotion, pull from it something that appeals to your likeness because..."if you were a true artist you would understand the psychology of the brain of an artist who is in depression"

I get "Going through life has been sheer hell for me because when god stuck his finger in my cheek to give me an adorable dimple, he got distracted for a second by some passing seraphim doing a rousing chorus of Hallelujahs and stuck his finger in about an inch too high. Now I have the world's most misplaced dimple and I'm disfigured instead of adorable. Shit."

I sure do like that bronzy highlight on his orbital bone, though.
backmagicwoman (edited May 23, 2011)
I also get ''why did he make me look like a young John O' Hurley?..poo"..
Wraith (edited May 24, 2011)
Hahaha @ GQ Sandal Model.
@Crimson. Even your crap drawings look good.

This was meant kind of--to be me. I used a make up mirror, and it's not exactly accurate, but, mostly, this is how I look, not finished, without my Titanium copper-metal rimmed glasses on. And, it's not finished, but it was meant more to be a sketch, with a smile, not so technical. Not drawn myself in a while. so i can do some more and see what I think Yes, my neck really is long, and I have high cheek bones, very fair skin, and dark-gold hair(I used to be a redhead.) I was good looking, so getting old is really painful. I was egotistical about my looks, dammnit.

you look like you ought to add cat ears to this portrait, and a mouse tail hanging from your mouth :) Your eyes and smile look a bit mischievous.

from a picture of chinese artist ai wei wei with his artwork, a room full of one hundred million porcelain sunflower seeds.

some context..from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ai_Weiwei In October 2010, Sunflower Seeds was installed at the Tate Modern Turbine Hall, London. The work consists of one hundred million porcelain "seeds," each individually hand-painted in the town of Jingdezhen by 1,600 Chinese artisans, and scattered over a large area of the exhibition hall.[33] The artist was keen for visitors to walk across and roll in the work to experience and contemplate the essence of his comment on mass consumption, Chinese industry, famine and collective work. However, on 16 October, Tate Modern stopped people from walking on the exhibit due to health liability concerns over the porcelain dust.[34] In February 2011, a 220-pound (100 kg) pile from Sunflower Seeds sold for $559,394 (well above its high estimate of $195,000) at Sotheby's in London.[35]
He is currently under arrest by chinese authorities for alleged 'tax evasion' .
davincipoppalag (May 21, 2011)
He's in Beijing... Everything is China :0)
dorothyblueeyes (May 22, 2011)
so, some reason this fabulous piece of reality is not in showcase? everything else detailed, and fantastically tightly rendered and licked,is in showcase. Besides, it's great.
karl (May 25, 2011)
Great work, its a shame the chinese government took him in

Love the colors...that deep red with the sea green is so yummy. Your impressionistic brush strokes that look like watercolor are great. The shadows are gorgeous. Nice work.
