well, if you lived near me.....all you would be doing is shoveling snow.....I have to go out and shovel every day.....and it just keeps on snowing. I shoveled for about 3 hours today, and it's snowing again.....so I'll be shoveling again tomorrow...."lol"......I too, miss "laughter in the sunshine".....:)
davincipoppalag (Feb 28, 2010)

Thank you everybody! This was done by playing around with the settings. I even worked on it in greyscale for a bit. I saw what looked like a pinkish dress and finished it from there. I wish I could do things like this on canvas. Maybe blindfolded?
Suntan (Mar 1, 2010)
Why do you wish you could with your talent?
jekyll (Mar 1, 2010)
I guess what I should have said, Suntan, is that I wish I had the inclination to do such work on canvas. It's one thing to push pixels around to form a drawing like this, but I'm afraid in a paint medium I'd overwork it and think too much about it. ( I'd never know if I was finished or not) I'm not sure I understand this kind of art. I enjoy it when it's done by others but I just don't feel any attachment to my own.
Suntan (Mar 1, 2010)
Get blindfolded then and just go with it. If nothing else, it would be fun. ;p

As long as there was no piss or mustard on it, I'd hang this on my wall. I like Toggenburgs and Nubians mostly. I just bought the best jar of mustard ever. It's President's Choice le Choix de Président dijon (we have to say everything twice here--once in English and once in Quebecois--which you'll already know if you watched any of the Vancouver Olympics) It's as hot as wasabi. But you can only get it at The Super Store out west or Loblaw's down east.
backmagicwoman (Feb 28, 2010)
I love that Inglehoffer Sweet Hot mustard..that stuff is soo good...but it will definitely scorch your sinuses if you get to much at one time...my husband took me to this place one time on our way back from Key west..it was in Jensen Beach called Mrs. Peters smoked fish..and they had the best honey wasabi mustard dip I have ever eaten..I keep telling him we need to go back there because their fish is really good too.

i was thinking that i might learn more from copying some great paintings instead of fotos.
For my first one, i chose one of my favorite artists, Josh Kirby, to copy from. He was a really great artist, but its a bit difficult to find a good painting from him to copy, as he tended to do those really detailed paintings (especially on the Discworld books)
for reference i chose one of his simpler paintings: http://andokai.blog.cz/0608/josh-kirby

So, everyone seems to be doing a little copying from favored painters & illustrators so I thought I would throw in my 2 cent.

This is from Kay Nielsen. I really love all of his work. Especially for the East of the Sun and West of the Moon book. :)

Not done yet, and the lady needs some reworking of the torso and head, but better then nothing!

I bought all the illustrations from that book in card form about...erm...30 years ago. Still have them. Still love them. This is very, very pretty and has captured the feeling of his work.
Layne (Feb 27, 2010)
I am glad you like it. They republished the east of the sun and west of the moon about two(?) years ago in a really nice hardcover edition. :) I was so glad when i saw because while I had a book of his illustrations I really wanted to be able to read the stories that went along with all of his illustrations.
enjoydotcom (Feb 27, 2010)
Very attractive style, those soothing colors are great.

It would be a great contest, draw from your favorite artist. In his or her style.
mursku (Feb 27, 2010)
when i compare your piece with the original, the first thing that pops to my eyes is that the original looks like it was made with watercolors, while yours looks too smooth, there's hardly any texture.. i liked the texture you had going in the fifth version.
if you wanted to have texture like in the original painting, an easy (and quick!) way to do it, would be with a scatter brush (choose a high scatter count and you can maybe crank up the spacing too) on a separate layer. that way you can easily erase the eventual wayward dots from unwanted areas, and you can also play around with the blend mode and opacity (make it subtle)

..hmm, another thing that i noticed was that the original was much more sharper (darker and thinner lines).. i suck at line art so i'll not gonna try to give you any advice on that. You would only get worse if i tried to teach you line art :P
