Specialty Boards/Contest!
Shanghai (Apr 8, 2008)
So imagine it's like an adventure/rpg where the bosses are things like a giant monster crab, or, in this case, a monster turtle with only one weak point that you have to hit when it reaches a certain point of its attack pattern.

I haven't put anything in a contest for a long time, so I thought I'd do one for this week, but if sweetcell doesn't want to include it in the judging that's fine too.

''See the TURTLE of enormous girth!
On his shell he holds the earth.
His thought is slow but always kind..
He holds us all within his mind.
On his back all vows are made..
He sees the truth but mayn't aid.
He loves the land and loves the sea,
And even loves a child like me.''

I overworked this to death trying to get just the right colors/textures or trying out different looks to see what they'd be like. I wasn't really keeping count, but I'm certain there were at least 80+ layers here with around 7-10 per revision. I merged them all right before submitting each version though, so there's only 1 layer.

This is a wonderful drawing, It is so sweet and soft looking, and the mind trick it plays on you. Just like that photo of the Asian lady, where she has a double set of eyes and mouth.

I want to hug it, but I would probably end being stomped.

some parts of it seemed a little sloppy before, or more cartoonish than I had really wanted.

This is a remake of an old drawing I made here- link

in one of my classes I once made a short flash dream sequence with him as the hero defeating nightmares as the dreamer obtains inner peace

I remember this one, why would you think you'd need to improve it? I like this but I'm with Anna, the old one far exceeds this one.

I've been thinking about drawing a frosty mountain town for awhile, but the exact design I just made up as I went. I was thinking of various old games as I made it.

loosely named after Thule

I made Tahei with the idea of a country at the top of the world that's perpetually frozen. There's a Christmas themed mining town (it takes a lot of coal for all the bad kids out there), a glacier roaming with snow beasts, frozen waterfalls during the winter when it gets really cold, a hot springs for the small monkey population (based on a type of monkey in Japan that does go into hot spring waters), an icy moon that's closer than you'd think (it is the top of the world after all), and a castle on the mountain top. I haven't decided who lives in the castle, but it's not Santa Claus. I like real world references and influences, but I normally avoid directly using fictional/real life characters or places since it is my own fantasy world I'm making. Tahei as a country may only be made up of one town and a castle, but they never have to worry about being invaded because no army would want to bother with it. The monkeys here are like miniture yetis, and the snow beasts are their much larger cousins (think The Empire Strikes Back and that big snow monster that attacked Luke at the beginning).

maybe the castle will be a pathway to the moon. The owner of the castle should be based on Kaguya Hime from Japanese folklore (a princess who came from the moon). The pathway should open up during the full moon, and there should be a race of Lunarians there like in Final Fantasy 4 or in the Touhou game series (Imperishable Night was about Kaguya). There was also a villan based on Kaguya in one of the Inu Yasha movies.

Even though they sometimes look like they're separate trees, this is actually the inside of the one giant tree Tamuril that's large enough to have a miniture forest within its trunk. The light comes from the phosphorescent crystals here which channel in light from shafts to the outside. If they were to be mined out and exploited then the animals and the entire inner forest would die. Because Tamuril is the point of origin for this world, the effects would radiate out and eventually cause an end to everything else.
