Wow! The eyes are great... and the shadowed skin... and the background... and the shiny jewelry... and the rose...
Miss_DJ (Jan 6, 2007)

This is my favourite so far.
cmb (Dec 29, 2006)
van Goghs use of complementary colours really helped me along....
Ruggi (Jan 6, 2007)
I like the table and the lamps especially... something about the right kind of stripiness I think?
cmb (Jan 7, 2007)
yes- I tried to copy his brushstrokes... possibly overdid the glow of the lamps...

I looove this contest....
Homer Simpson meets Picasso

Picasso had a lot of styles, so I tried to fuse parts of them that I love the most.
These paintings helped me:
[1] [2] [3]

Trying to understand his color schemes, shading, and how he played with shapes was a great experience. ...No matter how good or bad the result is.

I'm hoping for more people to enter this contest.

Was he a pointillist? (or however that's spelled) this is very pretty so far
Ruggi (Jan 6, 2007)
Thanx! Yeah, he seems to like those dots. You can find this one ("La Louvre et le Pont du Carrousel - Effet de Nuit") and some others on http://impressionism-art.org/cat20.htm?sessionid=ea8f8943d1af25a348d2be5c9a05b776
The one online looks a lot more yelloy than the postcard I used though!
Alter.Native (Jan 6, 2007)
Very atmospheric.
Ruggi (Jan 6, 2007)
Can't revise it anymore... out of space already. I guess the combination of points and brush uses up too many kb's. Wonder if those old pointillists ever ran out of space too...?

I love the line of black trees on the sides, it really adds to it

I love the clouds in the sky

and the over all gloomy feeling
Ruggi (Oct 29, 2006)
Thanx! Yeah I kinda like those trees too. It's mainly the 'water' that bothers me. I tried making it more wavy, but then the entire picture became a bit too busy, so I smoothed it out again. But it looks more like ice now...
Jennybis (Oct 30, 2006)
ho ho ho great, and a new inspiration source... anyway La Seine is not wavy :)
I thought you left your black and white camera at home !! ;)
Ruggi (Oct 31, 2006)
Yes I did! I used one of my old B&W pictures for inspiration... :o)
