"I remember prom night. I wasn't planning on going but my friends convinced me. We drove down to the lake, because it was all set up on a ship deck. So we hung out there for a couple hours, then took a break and went over to Tony's to get some alcoholic refreshments. When we went back to the party I ran into the hottest girl. We danced and made out off and on for the rest of the prom. When it was over, she left to find her ride and I went to find mine. I don't remember the rest of the night, and in the morning all I could remember about the girl was her sitting across the table, with the waves and the stars behind her. I didn't get her name, or her number, or anything.. but damn, I wish I did."

I think you are pretty close shultsy. Maybe in the ref she's got a bit more of a smile than in yours?
enjoydotcom (edited Jul 27, 2009)
Hope you don't mind me giving you my 2 cents.
The mouth is open a lot wider, when I draw an imaginary line in the ref from the corners of her mouth to her eyes, they end up somewhere around the pupils. If I do that in your drawing, the lines line up with the corners of her nose/inside of her eyes. Quite a difference.

Her nose is pointier, and the shadows on her cheeks are darker.

Otherwise, good job, I recognized her, well I knew which Sarah you meant. :D

She's a pretty girl, but I cringe when she is on tv. Get embarrassed by proxy and that is not easy to do, I'm used to a lot.
Flubbles (Jul 27, 2009)
If you add me i'll help you finish it off, jk :p Yea the corner's of the mouth should line up with the inside of the pupil's and the end of the nose should be wider, there's other stuff but there the main thing's that i can see.

ok, thank you three. I will to fix her, and than flubbles could write again all the other wrongs he detects :)

Nicely drawn. Your hat brings to mind another hat wearer, the Groovy Dancing Girl...

Instead of being all pissy pant's about it, why dont you ask marcello nicely if he can help you out?
enjoydotcom (Jul 27, 2009)
Flubbles, Chibi is an applet where Marcello can't do anything with. Maybe she can save the picture and finish it in another program, perhaps local on her pc or ask Marcello if it is possible to upload it in Lascaux. The only drawback is that the layers will be merged. But that's a step up from not being able to finish it at all.

The problem is that you seem to think that this somehow glorifies child abuse when it actually does the opposite. It brings it under a harsh light and presents a haunting image that stays with you, reminding you of how tragic it truly is. This is a tribute to the dignity of suffering children, not their tormentors. If the idea of someone profiting from depicting this offends you in such a way, are you also upset with the people who profit from depicting slavery? You know, the people who made Roots. Or maybe you think Spielberg is a monster for profiting (yes, you had to pay for the tickets and DVDs) from his masterpiece on Nazi persecution of the Jewish population, Schindler's List.
Flubbles (Jul 24, 2009)
There's so much more child abuse going on than people know about, it's images like these that bring about the starkness off it all.
Hierognosis (Oct 17, 2009)
Or maybe she just broke her nose and someone took a picture of her. She doesn't look sad or scared, soo... Either way, the picture is drawn well. Good job on the lights and dark.

@Flubbles: Heh, I respect your opinion, but you should know that the real reason I joined the advanced board really was for the larger canvas... and you are right- Silvair's art is truly amazing @__@ (I've been watching that person on dA forever!)

And thank you again to everyone for your comments.
lori (Jul 25, 2009)
I'm not saying I'm not guilty of the same thing, going to intermediate for the larger canvas and not trying as hard as I could... but I think it prob'ly would cost money to have larger canvases on each board (I don't really know)... so for now, respect the rules, donate to Marcello if/when you can, and stick to intermediate for this type of draw. We're supposed to work up to the larger canvases, not just plop any kinda work on whatever board. That said, I think I can remove the wild hair from across my ass now. Yank!
Roppongi (Jul 25, 2009)
@lori: Yeah, I never really quite realized that, mainly because I haven't drawn at this site particularly... so thank you for telling me. (feels ashamed)

idk, it lacks uniformity to me. Like bunches of styles were patched together, it seems.
