Cianteed (Sep 19, 2004)
I remember when,
I was told a story of crushed velvet, candle wax and dried up flowers.
The figure on the bed all dressed up in roses, calling.
Beckoning to sleep, offering a dream.
The words were as mystical as purring animals,
The circle of rage, the ghosts on the stage appeared.
The time was so tangible, I'll never let it go.
Ghost stories handed down, reached secret tunnels below.
No one could see me.
I fell into yesterday,
Our dreams seemed not far away.
I want to...
I want to...
I want to stay
I fell into fantasy.

I am planning a rather large, ambitious picture, and I want it to look very good. Some aspects, I have a good idea of how I'm going to do it, but there are some things about it that I'm just innately bad at and would like some tips on. Those things are: Shading in a room, namely a white room-- walls, floor, ceiling. How do you depict light on a flat surface without making it look monotonal, boring, or overly textured? Realistic skin shading-- How do you use single pen strokes to achieve go...

This looks really sharp! I like it. You may want to add some shadow (I see the hair shadow already) on the skin and hair tones to define features. Also, if you want to make smoother lines use the Pen or Airbrush tools, though your pencil looks very nice already. The art programs really give you a lot of power + features to work with.
Shmoopy (Sep 22, 2004)
The mouth is off, if you're attempting an anime style. Or realism, for that matter. The lines of the lips, teeth, etc aren't parallel with your chin and stuff. The sword also looks pretty small, unless its in the background.
The hair is also done oddly, without the shading and highlights... as p3n stated. The hair's shadow though, would not be that opaque or rounded.

Good luck.
Childlike_Vampire (Sep 27, 2004)
I think this is tiyan's style, and it looks pretty neat. I will say that layers help, and not using the line tools and fill tools as much will help. I know the shadow could definitely be that opaque, but it would probably match the hair, since it is the hair's shadow after all.

Shmoopy is right, the mouth is off, but the reason is because usually with anime the teeth don't always go right up to the line of the profile. It's sometimes pulled back a bit, and the lips are drawn in with the profile. I suggest watching anime and paying attention to how things are drawn, and the proportions, and the differences between the many styles of anime there are.

Hmm...shading, and intresting bg's help too. ^__^ But really, I like this pic, it has a boldness to it that I enjoy. Hope to see more from you.
