Giddy-up!
firecracker (Dec 24, 2009)
Looks great so far......I don't know why, but this pic makes me think of the movie "Sleepy Hollow".....maybe it's the black horse.....the rider has his head, so I know it's not the "headless horseman".....lol. Anyways....I like the draw so far....hope to see you finish it! :)
dorothyblueeyes (Dec 25, 2009)
You must be around riders and horses, good movement;and the sky accenting is very effective.
Aakyra (Dec 26, 2009)
Thanks to all for the comments so far... I draw encouragement from your support, and I feel I will need it to finish this one. DBE - unfortunately, I do not have a horse or the time to spend with people who are fortunate to own, ride, show these beautiful creatures, but I do love rendering them. This is my path of choice as far as my traditional art is concerned, and with each completed work, I am fortunate to be able to see and do more to bring the spirit and beauty of the horse to life. Thanks again everyone, and Happy Holidays!

I think you need some darker colours around the horse to distinguish it from the background, because now it just all blends into one.
enjoydotcom (Oct 2, 2009)
This has a lot of contrast on my monitor at work. My laptop however has a superbrightwhatshamacallit sreen and it has less contrast. So Bob, me thinks its our screens :D.

I love the free painterly look it has.
Suntan (Oct 3, 2009)
All your horses have a lovely free style and of course artists choice..but I can see what he's saying...must be my screen as well. :)

Thanks so much for the feedback and the comments! I attempted to add a little more contrast, but I feel I did a poor job in adding to this... still all the nice comments are very meaningful to me!

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in undergrowth,
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

oh Aakyra, this is truly a master piece. So lovely. You put so much of yourself and attention to every aspect of your draws.
Aakyra (Jul 20, 2009)
Sorry for the delay in saying thanks! I do appreciate the thoughtful comments. And Grey Ghost, I love the poem, it really inspired me to work to the finish on this. The picture seemed to be a visual of the words. Thanks QT! I am always honored by a commeny from you, and Sun, good friends always!
sofballchik0323 (Aug 10, 2009)
oh this is beautiful!! the poem is great too, i actually sang a song with those words for as a solo a few years ago, my first thought when i saw this was that you had heard the song, it adds another level of meaning to the words as only music can. but this is an absolutely gorgeous painting and i hope you do more landscapes soon :)
Aakyra (Aug 10, 2009)
I am sure that your performance was wonderful... the words are really beautiful, and I didn't think until you mentioned it how lovely they would be set to music! Thank you for the comment, it was so very nice!

I started this picture a few days prior to my Father-in-law's passing. He was an incredible Man. I was fortunate to have him in my life. This is dedicated to Charles with love and saddness. Miss you!
Rest in peace, Charles

It's moving O.O what a stunning art you've created! Such a lovely horse!
Juni_gatsu (Aug 4, 2008)
Very nice! I like all the soft colors, I think they add a lot of motion to this picture. Also the delicateness of the horse's head is beautiful. My only critique would be that anatomically the horse is a little off, I think his/her chest should be deeper and, from that angle, not quite so long in the back. Still a very nice drawing though, keep it up.
Aakyra (Aug 5, 2008)
Thanks so much Dorsy and Juni... your comments are really appreciated. I really struggled with this as the photo reference was quite distorted. I tried several times to get that position correct in order to better portray the anatomy, but in the end, I was not successful. I also like the head and the legs, hooves were a good study excercise for me. I sometimes wonder if a tablet would make a difference for me. I always have used a mouse. When I work large, it doesn't seem to be an issue, but when I am working in a lot of details and curving lines, it seems to really take soooo much time. Thanks to both of you!
