What do you expect, Holwrath? The more power an individual has, the more corrupt they become. The position of President of The United States is one of the most powerful positions in the world, backed by an even more corrupted administration, you do the math.

It's not just the temptations.. even of they were pure ideologists (wihch I doubt), in order to get into that powerful position (and 'make a change') they must play the game and that's when they get filthy and corupted.. anyways, you can pull a saramgo and whiten your votes.
