Ah, crap. I suck at "shadowing"... At least you can see what's happening up there. Yep, that's me, contemplating the last moment before Halley's Comet enters in collision with the Earth. Ouch.

Actually I find the shading rather interesting. But if you want a tip on more 'comic/cartoon' style cel shading, try setting the mask tool to your outline color (the button that says "Normal" can be changed to "Mask", "ReMask", etc.), then you can safely draw without destroying your lines. Then just pick single darker colors with the regular brush (not water color), and draw!

Looks good, welcome to 2draw!I can move it if you like, but it's not a big deal which board a pic is on unless it sucks/is a waste of time (then it'd probably be deleted).

As for layers, if you really love an image, you can always trace onto a new layer, usually gives you nicer/cleaner lines anyway. (takes friggen forever though)
