You should try some angled shots of people too, as opposed to just from the side. As far as drawing for a sidescrolling game is concerned, I think drawing EVERYTHING from every possible angle is still the most important thing to practice for beginners. You know, just learning how to "draw" things. Studying cartoon animation a little bit helped me a LOT, too.

I wish someone would make a good how-to site about drawing 2d sprites. I haven't found one yet.

Ok, don't use fill, it leaves behind white spaces that you have to go back and fill in. Use layers to color in your picture. Don't rely on the line tool, and spend more than 11 minutes on your pictures. If you need to read the rules.

darken your outline add more color and less blur....use a thicker brush to color it in....good try :)

Do spend more time on your pieces, seriously, more than 10 minutes. Doodles take up space. Use the airbrush to make your line art, it's smoother. Darken your colors, find out where the light source is and put the hightlights there, and the shadows opposite. And use the smooth erasure to clean up your lineart. I'm not saying this is bad and it's obviously unfinished but at least put more than 6 or 3 minutes on every revision. And avoid the damn blur tool. It's death if used wrong.
