I just got some Prismacolor Nupastels and I was wondering if anyone here is experience with this medium. I need some tips for blending and shading. I've tried to practice with them a few times but I end up with a huge muddy color mess.

I messed with them for the first time this semester (results here)

All I can say is working big helps a lot, then just kinda grinding in lots and lots of color and smudging it up, moving it around with your fingers.

I know the type of paper you use matters... I used to make landscapes with those... they're good for blending a beautifully colored sky... I think it's just a matter of the pressure you use on the chalk, on how much will be there on the paper for you to blend... or blend too much? it's hard to tell someone how to use those... but I used to do it!

eeww chalk pastels. oil are so much more fun for blending :)

ive never seen the set but i used to play around with some a long time ago in jr. high when my art teacher gave me things to play with. it all depends what youre doing too. we did a lot of trees so for greens add blue to darken add yellow to lighten. make good use of the color wheel :)

you can do some neat effects with complimentary colors too.

They made me use them in my class and I hated them. But then, I used them on my own and I drew a puppy. It owns, and it was really fun and really fast (which is the only way I can finsih anything). I bet you can have fun with them. Oh yeah! They wash off but still the dust gets everywhere and can mess up your carpet really fast, so don't draw aroud your carpet.

Hate Pastels! Like them on women though. Charcoal too they suck, love the way they look, but like pastels always ended up with a freakin' mess. But hey if you like em' to each his own. Rock on.

i usually like to use charcole-charcol-ch.....ooh whatever. because you can erase better. try blinding with your finger, that usually works.

if you blind with your finger, you don't need to worry about color at all... or even drawing for that matter.

http://www.deviantart.com/view/12590940/ these are the results, not completely finished i'd say, but mostly, and it was an interesting experience. i think i'll have to try again. i like the smoothness that you can get, but i just hate how messy it is. oh yeah, and it looks too anime-ish...
