Hot damn, girl, this works! Your willingness to experiment and be so free in your approach to art is such an inspiration to me. Always has been.
davincipoppalag (Jun 9, 2011)
and there she goes again....another new style..
Miss_DJ (Jun 9, 2011)
yes yes I agree with Teapot!!!

I was thinking it was crappy looking! Thanks a lot!! :D
Black_Bird (Jun 10, 2011)
It's good. Almost with a vivid holographic quality to it.
Suntan (Jun 10, 2011)
hmmm, really!? that's cool, thanks :)
Axil62 (Jun 10, 2011)
suntan. I'll tell you the truth. This is good for someone else, not for you. You are better than this. Not that you have to live up to anything, of course you don't. Just that I think you know it and are wondering why people can't be honest. I'm being honest. It's not good.
Teapot (Jun 10, 2011)
Taste in art is subjective. I don't think anyone can argue that. I love Suntan's work and for you to insinuate that I am somehow being 'dishonest' in expressing my appreciation for it is almost unbelievably rude. I do like version 1 much more than version 2.
Axil62 (Jun 10, 2011)
I like her work too, just not this one, and I'm not insinuating, I said it flat out.
Miss_DJ (Jun 11, 2011)
Your willingness to experiment and be so free in your approach to art is such an inspiration to me. yepp....I'd be a pretty sad case if I felt I had to lie when I'm taking the time to make a comment on anyone's art...lol....
jia-flynn (Jun 12, 2011)
Honestly, I'm with Axil, here. It's good to experiment, but honestly, I think Suntan's work [with a quick browse through her gallery] can be better, and has been better. Just my two cents.
Dr.Moony (edited Jun 12, 2011)
Here is some feedback focused on the actual piece:

Well it looks like the work of someone who doesn't know at all how to chose the right colors. Random colors...no thought process behind it. Her face looks especially odd in the thumbnails.

If this was about skills, I really wouldn't know which skill this piece exhibits well. Maybe the skill of pressing the submit button.
And if I were to search for something cool about this, I'm having a hard time finding what she felt was worth sharing here.

I pretty much just see "I'm bored, let's doodle something. I don't really care"
Or maybe "I don't know how. This isn't fun"
Suntan (Jun 12, 2011)
oh my..what have I come home to! :\

ok, well, thank you for the comments, I respect all of your opinions and even agree to most.

I took Teapot and DJ's comment at face value... spontaneous and light...thank you, again. I have drawn critique from Teapot many times and appreciated it and know that she says what she means or else she would have done otherwise. This one I took as fun and nothing serious.

Axil's comment I take seriously, and also appreciate his honestly and the vote of confidence there... i thought also, it might be directed more toward Black_Bird since he/she is the only one who used the word good. My comment back to BB was questioning, but again, with thanks and light hearted.

Dr. Moony:
A. I don't know how to choose color. All random..no thought behind it, I think as I go..does it look ok or not. 4 out of 5 tries, I delete. This one was going rather smoothly for me, someone with no skill, so I was happy to press the submit button the first time.
B. If anything I ever draw is cool, it is by accident. I don't give that much thought to cool either. Though, I may think somethings I do turn out cool looking..and I press submit. I've been lucky to find some people think so, too, on some of them.
C. I never draw out of boredom. I always wait until I have the time to come and spend the 30-40 minutes on something...rarely do I ever spend a lot of time on anything, because honestly I do not have the skill, as you say, and so yes, you are correct in calling them doodles, which is what they are.... I happily am a doodler, I love to draw...and Yes, believe it or not, I have fun doing it.

*sigh*...anyway, thanks for all the honesty and really, all the unexpected feedback. I must be doing something right to get comments for 4 of the best artists here. ;)

*now if I can just be not afraid to draw again! ><
j/k, (i think) :)

what a gracious and classy response Suntan.
shell (Jun 12, 2011)
Wasn't it just? Yeah I agree, good on ya Suntan.
Flubbles (Jun 12, 2011)
If I'm being honest I was going to say something about this the other day, about people kissing each others arseholes, being nice about their drawings to one and another. But I thought to myself who are they really hurting apart from mildly annoying me from time to time, so I decided against it. Because at the end of the day the worlds not going to end because of it, and if they feel the need to do it who was I to make them feel miserable. After saying all this though, it does rather annoy me.
Axil62 (Jun 12, 2011)
teapot must be afraid of you Dr. Moony. I can't get away with something like that, nooo sireee bob! She steps right in and teaches me a lesson I'll never forget, oh boy I tell ya.

Specifically, I like the colors used in this drawing. I get the sense of light and color reflected from a bright light bounced off water. The colors appeal to me because they are the colors I love to to see appearing in my massive garden in the verbena, lilacs, rhododendrons, begonias, roses, etc. One of my favorite things about this drawing is the introspective look the eyes have. I often admire the micro-expressions in your portraits. I sometimes like work that combines realistic elements with abstraction. This face has that combination, for me, and I like it, but only version 1.
Axil62 (Jun 14, 2011)
Not just any garden, oh no, lets be clear...but a massive one in the verbena. Let's not leave that little detail out.
Teapot (Jun 14, 2011)
My garden is massive and it's way way way more than I can take care of which drives me crazy every day. The verbena is a plant that is the peachy color in this drawing. I don't suppose there is anything I can say that won't get a sarcastic, rude, mean remark from you so how about you just ignore my posts? You are being a bully. Does it make you feel proud of yourself?
Axil62 (edited Jun 14, 2011)
No, it makes me feel all ashamed and guilty and bad.
How about you ignore mine?
