Way back in the mid 60's, I lived in Los Angeles, and I was fortunate enough to be given tickets to go to "The Hollywood Bowl" to see Peter, Paul, and Mary live in concert. It was an awesome concert.....they are great folk singers. One of my fave songs of theirs is "Puff the magic Dragon".

Yes, I thought volcano, too. I lived in Portland when Mt. Saint Helen's blew so I remember what it looks like from that time. I don't have a TV so haven't seen any images of the Icelandic eruption. Glassy-skied is right...all that silica floating around. It killed my '67 Volkswagen. You would find it in everything for months and months afterward. Nasty stuff but interesting to look at.
Suntan (May 20, 2010)
Interesting work you do, itchy. I can see volcano, but my first thought was raw wool. Great work. :)

or maybe 'TheShadow' from Inkheart. though it was blacker.. silica not too good for jet engines either... i imagine wool has silica content.....thnx l,d,t,s i'll have to do a proper referenced one now :)
firecracker (May 20, 2010)
This is really cool.....I have to agree with suntan.....it makes me think of raw wool also.....:)

Just looking through your gallery and came across this. I'd forgotten that you drew it. I fell in love with the same photo! Pretty funny. I left out the berries. Seeing your version again...I really like how you made it your own style.

This is really beautiful, just as it is. I can only imagine it finished ...how amazing this will be. Love her expression, the canvas size and the curves in it.

Sorry, didn't mean to bump this to the top, just wanted to complete it. I kept thinking about that poem "Ozymandius" while I was playing with the watercolour brush...trying to make it look like her body was made of sand, blowing away in the wind.

I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal these words appear:
“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
by Percy Bysshe Shelley

Connie is an RN I worked with in a jail and in home care. She is someone I admire very much. She is very funny but stands by her principles and does not back down when quality of care is challenged. She is wearing a hat and scarf that I made for her

very nice draw......I like it......she does have a very stearn look about her.......when I worked at a hospital, I had a head nurse who had that same stearn look about her.....she ran a "tight ship", but she was always honest and fair with everyone. I was a little bit intimidated by her, but I liked her and respected her. This is a great pic "L&C".......I bet "Connie" really liked the hat and scarf you made for her........:)
Teapot (May 14, 2010)
Her expression speaks volumes, like she knows what you're up to but she's not going to be bothered trying to talk to you about it 'cause she knows you won't listen and you just gotta figure it out your own self anyway. Love the way you drew her mouth especially. Those colours you used in the knitting look great on her.
lynnandcharlie (May 14, 2010)
you are pretty close there, there are some people she will take aside and tell them like it is but will not say it twice and she certainly knows what people are up to and she has sound clinical judgment

I don't know what happened to the b/g? It didn't look like that when I posted it. Anyway, we can fix it later. A rough sketch to start with.

I don't blame you for not wanting to live anywhere else.....it sounds fabulous there. I bet your island is surrounded by nice clean water.....not spoiled by any oil spills. I bet the fishing is great there,,,,,do you do any fishing at all?? Maybe you might do a draw of your island sometime.....it would be interesting to see.......:)
Luniki (Jun 23, 2010)
I'd never have the patience to draw sth so detailled!
Flubbles (Jul 1, 2010)
The good thing is when you do a collab you only have to do half of the work.

nice skin tones. Well done!

Beautiful work on the features and skin tones. I really like how you've suggested her corn rows rather than getting too detailed.
